There are two problems I see with K&N. One is the fact that if there actually is an increase in hp (I highly doubt it) then it would never be enough to feel, at the pedal. Second if the filter is an oiled type, then you are asking for trouble with the MAP sensor. The MAP will absolutely need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

Based on the data in the link that Thai posted it appears that some filters perform VERY POORLY.

BTW, didn't you know that K&Ns increase horsepower? : Some people have told me that their "Butt Dynos" told them of the increase in horsepower.

FYI, some K&N users have learned the hard way when it comes to oiling their filters. The looks on their faces says it all when they are told their MAF sensor was damaged by the oil from the K&N and will cost $400 to replace. Improper oiling is the leading cause of death for many MAF sensors.

You just can not stand the fact that the K&N kits make more HP and Torque. Yes they are loud! That is a fact. Weather it is felt or not they do make more HP & Torque. Dyno charts don't lie. I can not imagine any company would post dyno charts unless they could back up thier data. I posted emails from the company what more do you want?? If you question there weather they are real, Email them yourself. I am waiting to hear from a local Dyno shop. it i get a chance to get it on the dyno I will Post all the results. As for the map sensor I had a drop in K&N before I had the kit and the sensor had nothing on it. I tried to clean it and saw no difference.

Very old post here I know but truths out now & I see them on daily drivers still so I'll update this for future readers?

Is it worth an engine? Worst thing to do on off road vehicles.
It is a proven fact that K&N style oiled air filters allow more dust/grit into the engine. Micro dust /grit particles get into the engine and shorten bearing, cylinder & piston ring life dramatically therefore shortening the whole engine life.
Its why the air filters there to begin with so one might as well just remove it if he don't care about his engine enough and chose these as street filters or even worst on off roaders.

They are fine when used correctly though. They belong on the race track which is what K&N designed them for originally until cashing in on our ignorance. They were not designed to be on everyday drivers.
Racers rebuild their engines frequently anyway so they don't care about long term, they just want enough hp to shave milliseconds off to win a race and use them to do just that.
Who are you trying to outrun using them on a daily driver?

IMO even if they add 30-50 hp & 5mpg they still suck on daily driven vehicles because they shorten engine life and won't pay for their self but instead cost thousands in the long run. It is a proven fact so run them at your own risk and don't ever expect engine longevity!
If you see one on a car you're looking to buy I suggest you pass because the long term problems from it will be yours!

I've seen tests where aftermarket filters do add power, but when combined with exhaust get less power because the stock tune isn't designed for the flow.

Anybody here have a CAI, exhaust, and a tune to tie it all together?

Not surprising at all a KN made no difference. They are silly and overpriced.

We will just see when the science comes back from Blackstone..... If dirt is passing through, there is no other place for it to land than the oil, or out the tailpipe
