Got my leveling kit yesterday ( CF 1")

Thanks Jason for the prompt service .

I just got to get it on . The instruction are good , but scares the hell out of me since I don't even know what some of the terms are.

I'll be searching for pics and threads to educate myself better.

Why does it scare you? XREAS is only a $380 option when new. Cornfed installed mine and was careful but didn't baby the XREAS. Unless you twist, gouge and yank the shocks off, it will be fine. If it breaks, get OME or any other shock absorber.

Don't sweat it. You will talk and worry yourself way past the worst case scenario.

Wow, I would give you just the opposite advice. Unlike Sac State, I installed my leveling lift myself on my XREAS equipped 4Runner. Unfortunately, the hoses for the XREAS system make it impossible to remove the strut assembly from the vehicle, instead forcing you to work with the hose still attached. This is an awkard position to work, especially when removing or reinstalling the top of the strut into the strut towers. Its also much more difficult to work with spring compressors when you are not able to pull the struts off the truck.

If you decide to do the work yourself, I would caution you to avoid putting a lot of stress on the rubber hoses. You may not cause a leak right away, but stressing the connections too much can definitely lead to premature leaks down the road. If you do th work yourself, you will see just how difficult it can be to work with the strut assembly with the XREAS still connected.

If you decide to get the work done at a shop, make sure they will assume full responsibility for replacing the XREAS system if they should cause it to leak. You might have a problem getting a shop to accept that responsibility though. Im not trying to scare you or anything, but rather just expressing my opinion that it is not difficult to do damage to the system while installing the spacer kit.

Good luck. Let me know if you need any assistance.

When I installed my spacers, i placed a milk crate and used it as a work bench. It worked perfectly. Its not hard to do just time consuming. The line is a pain. I removed the clamp, holding the line to the frame, and that gave the hose a bit more slack.

I just realized I am on my 3rd suspension lift now. :zoom:

Exactly my point , you has yours installed. I'm sure CF could do these in their sleep.

Where does the spacer go in relationship to the rubber spacer in there already ? underneath or on top ? I would like to try it myself , my son works for a Toyota certified body shop and I'm going to take it there and talk to the suspension guy for some ideas.

CF removed the rubber spacer when they put mine in 2/1. My point is that even in their sleep, the XREAS is not that delicate. I could have done it myself if I had a floor jack, 6K lbs. jack stands and a pneumatic drill. I paid $150 and a few glasses of lemonade, which is a lot less than what it would have cost me buying these necessary tools.

Whats the drill for ?

If they remove the rubber spacer which is also about a half inch does that not defeat the purpose.

Do you have pics of your 2/1 ? I'll do a search to see if I can find some.

I already owned a floor jack and jack stands before I installed my spacers, so it wasnt an extra expense. I believe most people who do even the simplest maintenance on their vehicles already own these simple tools. A drill (pneumatic or otherwise) is not required. You can use wrenches to compress the springs.

I did not own strut (spring) compressors or a tie rod puller. Fortunately, Autozone loans these tools out for free. I would still suggest that you are cautious with the XREAS lines. You really dont want to place too much strain on them when you are jockeying the assembly around. BTW, most of the stress will occur AFTER you have the spacer in place and you are attempting to reinstall the strut assembly back into the upper strut tower holes.

Falls--- Do not remove the rubber piece when installing your 1-inch lift kit. The rubber should be between above the spring, but below the spacer. In other words, there should not be anything on top of the spacer itself.

Falls, once you do this yourself, you could do it again in your sleep too. It may seem difficult at first, but it is really incredibly simple.

So bottom to top it should be spring , CF spacer , rubber spacer ?

I already have a 2ton floor jack and jack stands.

As far as a tie rod puller and spring comp. I would have to rent. I dont even know what the tie road looks like. I'll also have to go out and buy some deep well metric sockets. I have a lot of sockets and sets but not a lot of metric.

Buy this time I could have paid for an install.

No, the spacer is on the very top. The rubber goes between the spacer and the spring.

. I dont even know what the tie road looks like.

Do you have any friends who have some wrenching experience? If so, invite one of them over to help you. If not, just take your 4Runner to a shop and have the spacers installed. I didn\'t realize that you have never done any type of suspension work before. If you are a complete noob at this kind of thing, I wouldn\'t recommend that you attempt this by yourself.

I would like to try it myself but we'll see . I printed off more instructions off the 120 website link that was provided. Hopefully when I do this I can get 1 or 2 of you guys on speed dial to walk me through something if I run into a problem.

I have not even messed with it because it's going into the shop soon to hopefully get the "stink" issue fixed. I might have them just look at a couple little things too. I just don't want the lift on right now.
