Picked up my classic silver '11 SR5 last night, what an awesome vehicle. Will be doing some minor accessories one of which is the stubby antenna. The popular one seems to be the Mangowalk, but which model? Also, is there any decrease in reception with one? I'd gladly post pics but don't see a way on this site to browse my photos. Thanks for a great site.

Did you even attempt to try "Search" in these subjects?? There are several threads on the Manowalks....and there is no way to post pics on here. Everybody that has pictures here just got lucky somehow.

Easy on the quick harsh reply: That's a good way to turn people off from a great site. I remember when I first started using the forums and I had no idea what I was doing. I know it can be frustrating to see the same questions repeated all of the time, but sometimes we just need to be descent to other folks and help them out.
To clubted; You may already know this, but you can use the search feature which will show all of the related topics, just add stubby antenna or something similar into the search block and you will find some good results.
To post pictures you will need to find a site to host your photos, which will automatically resize them to fit on the forums site and give you a link to use.
I use Photobucket, which is free to use and seems to work pretty good.
I can`t provide a lot of info on the antenna, but I have a short antenna on my Z-28 and it did reduce my reception a small amount.

I bought the Mangowalk 5" antenna (the 3" was just embarassing..
) I do experience decreased reception maybe 1% of the time while driving, otherwise completely negligible as it only fades for a second. Totally happy with the purchase.

OP, I apologize for you getting blasted by the first poster to your thread, like stated above, we were all new and excited at one time, I don't have experience with magnowalk, but I had a "stubby" antenna on one of my trucks and it seemed to be better than stock. good luck with your mods. don't get discouraged when looking for advice because of the few bad apples.

Welcome to the forums! This place provides a lot of information on mods ranging from small $$ to large sums of $$.
As for the antenna, I got the mangowalk 5" antenna like others have here. If I rememeber correctly, I bought it straight from their website, not from their ebay store since it offered free shipping. If you buy that one, you will have to buy another antenna from either autozone or amazon to get the little adaptor that fits into the 4R. (that information is in the big antenna thread which I think was already listed by another member).
As for reception, I live in an area that is populated with trees and hills/mountains. I definitely noticed a decrease in radio reception. For me, this is ok though since I really dont use the FM/AM radio anymore due to the iPod hookup, SAT radio, and bluetooth connectivity with my phone.

Re the picture thing; personally I don't like nor use photo sites, and you can upload to this site pretty easily. I'm not going into great detail but this'll get you started.
Use either NEW THREAD or EDIT / GO ADVANCED.
Scroll way down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS (click).
This gives you a dialog box with which to upload pics (note the size limit).
When done, CLOSE WINDOW, and then scroll back up to the MESSAGE BOX.
Now, you can enter text, and then click on the PAPER CLIP pulldown to insert your images. Alternating these steps, allows you to post instructions w/ pics in sequence.
When done, scroll down a little and click PREVIEW POST to see your work.

I think there should be an additional rule, unless you are a moderator no reprimanding other forum members for duplicate posts, or for not searching.
That is after all, the job of a moderator.
Furthermore, the initial response to this thread does this entire forum a great disservice as it makes it seem like a hostile place to come in and ask questions. All that had to be done was provide a link to the other thread about antennas, there is no need to reprimand, or be rude to a new forum member, or any forum member for that matter.
To be honest, Im quite amazed at what I see here. Im on many different forums, politics, guns, guitars, etc., and the level of hostility and rudeness I see from moderator wannabees is astounding.
Apologies if I myself broke any forum rules, but a little civility and patience goes a long way. No one is perfect, not even these self described forum cops that exist here.

The proper way to deal with a post you disagree with is to report it, not jump on the poster in the thread or elsewhere on the forum. If the mods let the post stand, that is that.
That being said, a thread was started more than a year ago on this same topic, filled with 12 pages of pictures and information and discussions. Instructions on posting pictures is also available and not that dissimilar from other forum software on the internet. A simple search would provide the answers and negated the need for a new thread by a new member with a new 4Runner.
While newer members might think it's rude to be referred to the search button, not searching first is akin to walking in to an established restaurant and not only refusing to read the menu, but demanding that the chef bring all the ingredients to the table so that they can be reviewed and a meal ordered. On top of that, add in the audacity of expecting the wait staff to move around the tables more to your liking and deriding the other customers for not helping cook your meal, pour your wine, and wash your dishes.
I don't walk in to your home and start demanding things from you and your family, so what makes it okay for new comers to do it here?
First off, this is the internet. That should be enough of an explanation. Its not a perfect environment, and there will be those who come here excited about their new purchase, and will neglect to do a search.
Secondly, while the search function here seems to work well (meaning >50% of the results are a match for your search criteria), often times unless you put in the exactly correct search criteria, you will not get the results you want.

This is not your home, and if there are supporting memberships it does not like you have one, and your certainly not a moderator, so chill out and let the mods do their work. If they dont have the time to do that than there needs to be another moderator or two.

Seeing as this fight seems to happen about every other post these days could the admin possibly create a page for new members giving some of the commonly made mistakes for a new member. Maybe a little outline of the search function and how it can be used to there advantage. Also when you confirmed as a new member you could be pointed directly to that link to make sure it isn't missed. This might have been mentioned before so I apologize in advance if it was. :bigok:

I think that people who think they know it all and they show NO patience for newbies are nothing but as*holes. YES,,, there are people out there who dont know how to use the search button...... surprise???????? many people struggle very hard to find a way to post a question..... many others do search and get overwhelmed with the many results they get.... we should show patience and grace..... and if anyone think they are too important to waste their time answering a question that has been asked before, simply they can shut the F* up and give some chance for other NICE people to take the lead and provide kind help and guidance. this is a forum .... it is meant to be for everyone.... regardless of their knowledge and level of experience..... no ONE has the right to determine the level of questions asked... or material posted..... very simple rule: if you want to answer a question.... go ahead,,,, if you dont.... shut up and let someone else do. if you dont like the thread.... do not read it.... and keep your filthy sh*** for yourself.... no one here is interested in seeing an arrogant POS giving hard time to a newbie just because they asked an innocent question
