Got Revos! Much better than X-Terrains.

Okay, so just on a whim I thought I'd stop by the Discount Tire near me and just see what they'd say if I ask to trade out my Michelin X-Terrains ( I figured they'd laugh their butts off, but shockingly, they didn't). The whole reason i got my 4Runner was to have a vehicle that would be capable in the mud and off road...so when the dealer put on Cross Terrains, well, let's just say I was less than pleased. Anyway, I just wanted to see how much they would give me to trade up to Revos. To my suprise, the guy said they would trade me 4 new 265 70R 17's Revos for $150. Yes, I know most people would say that's stupid to trade out 4 perfectly good tires, but I have to say these Revos are AWESOME!!
The first thing I did was find a nice muddy trail. What a difference! These things not only kill the X-Terrains off road, but on road it makes a huge difference in smoothness. I'm guessing that's due to the larger profile, but whatever...I love 'em!
Anyway, I thought I'd share my tire story since I finally have my 4Runner set up the way it should have been from the beginning.

You can't go wrong with the Revos! I traded my Dunflops for Revos and they are awsome. It is a pleasure not seeing my traction light on all of the time. I didn't look at any other tire at the time.

Does anyone notice any appreciable increase in road noise with the Revos? We drive 100% on-road except for a couple of trips a year to the mountains (snow). We're going in a couple of weeks and honestly I'm afraid to even head up a snowy mountain on these Dunlops, since they've already scared me more than once in heavy rain. We have a 2WD too, so geting grip with those 2 rear tires is critical.

I know my wife would freak though if I got a loud tire, so has anyone else noticed the Revos being much louder than the Dunlops?

And while I'm at it, how about cornering? Any difference?

I've been up the mountains for snowboarding, three times with my dunlops and 4X2. Once and the only time we encountered bad weather my gf drove, in a downpour, fog, and twisties. she said she didn't have any problems. Then I drove it through the resort, wet conditions, stop and go traffic. At every stop sign with an incline my traction control would always go off. You know that spinning rattling sound. It's awful to hear. Resorts usually take good care of the roads around the area.

Also, my experience with a couple inches of fresh powder was not the greatest. Going up a 10 degree incline for about 100 yd. in a neighborhood, the truck's tires spun a couple times as it huffed and puffed to get up the street. Again in a trip from Virginia Beach to DC, It had snowed heavy in VB, the truck did OK in speeds less than 50mph, no way I was going to push it any higher. Only problem I had was with an icy stretch of I-64 that few people travelled before me. I could feel that grip was limited so I bought her down to 25mph.

In slush it's fine. I had to take my pregnant sister to the doctor's to get her final checkup. You don't really want to be put in that position afer it just snowed, knowing that your truck is just posing as a 4X4. But the truck handled fine, only problem is that my washer fliud ran out, I spray that stuff every chance I get.

In conclusion, the dunlops will work fine, just as long as you don't have to travel is low speeds(-15mph) going uphill in fresh powder.

And that's why we're going to the mountains next week - snowboarding. The resorts do an ok job with the roads, but we're staying in a cabin that basically hangs off the side of the mountain. The roads are insanely steep and usually covered in snow - I just think the Dunlops are unsafe for such conditions.

We just got back from the mountains last night and it snowed 'bout 15" while we were there. I still have the stock Dunlops but just used chains the whole time I was up there. Actually state patrol required either chains or traction tires. While with the chains and 4x4 my truck did do awesome...no slipping at all, I really was wishing I had traction tires. The people with studs/traction tires were able to cruise around a lot faster than us with chains (30 mph limit with chains and they just sound scary).

Anyway on our mountain roads just Revos wouldn't work because the state patrol actually checks cars for studs or chains but I guess It would help if you were going to logging roads or something.

I want to get some studs or studless snow tires before next season but am going to stick with the stupid chains for the rest of this season.

I haven't noticed any more noise than normal. If anything, I'm so happy that my 4Runner doesn't vibrate anymore, I guess I haven't noticed any more noice than with the Cross Terrains, so no, I'd have to say there's really no noticeable road noise difference (at least for me).
If there is any, it's a very minute amount...I sure wouldn't let it sway me from the Revos.

Funny, I was up at Gov't Camp...on the way to Mt Hood. I will have to look into these Revo's usually I get all my tires at Les Schwab so will have to research where I can get the Revo's around here.
