Got Sirius for X-mas, now time to install. Question though...

I have no problem installing the antenna but I do have concerns with the power supply going into the lighter. Is there any other option? How does one hard wire this into their system? I use my lighter adapter for other things like my cell phone and radar detector. What is the best way to do this on a clean install? Any suggestions on where to put it also and for it to not get in the way of the passengers? Thanks.

i wired another lighter plug under the console, plenty of room toward the back of the console.

How did you do this? Where did you get the parts? I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to wiring. Sounds like something that might be a little advanced for me. Do you have any websites where this is discussed or any pics of an install?

You only have one power outlet? I have a 2000 4R and mine has three outlets. Weird.

Here is a quickie write-up I did. I just spliced another 12V outlet or you can get the different ashtray that has 2 outlets but it costs around 50-70 dollars.

I cheaped out and DYI.

Yeah, I have one power outlet in my center console and one all the way in the back in the cargo area. Thats it.

I added an outlet in the upper section of the glove box. Just buy a $10 radio shack outlet then splice into the existing outlet wire, run wire to where you want it mounted and find a place to ground to. Its actually quite easy. I never could understand why the car only has one outlet up front.

Another easy way to do it is get the $7 accessory outlet from Radio Shack as described above. Then go to Pep Boys (or equivalent) and buy an 'Add-a-Circuit'. This can be found in the area with fuses. Be sure to get the mini size, as that is the fuse size for the latest 4runners. Plug the add-a-circuit into one of the unused fuse locations (see owners manual). Connect the red wire on the accessory outlet to the add-a-circuit, and ground the black wire to a bolt. You will then have a hidden accessory outlet to power your Sirius unit. The accessory outlet can be tucked almost anywhere. I stashed mine behind the driver's kick panel.

Thanks for the info everyone. It doens't seem too difficult to add a line either. I will most likely just use the existing outlet for now and when the weather gets warmer in NY, about June, I will get under there and install another accessory outlet.
