Got to Use My Gear!

Got really heavy rain here yesterday, so I was out cruising with my young son checking out road and water damage around the countryside and city.

No pics, sorry!

Went down a mud road to get a closer look at the river, and when I went to back up to do a 3 point turn around, sure enough, slip, slip, traction groan.

Well, I'll go forward again. No dice. Well, I'll put it in 4WD and back up. Nope. Lock the center and put it in 4Lo? Worked like a charm.

I played with things just to test them out when I bought the rig last summer, but it's nice when an over-soaked road that treated me worse than I was expecting (based on experience with dry roads) is no match for my baby.

I would've been stuck without my old faithful. Well, I wouldn't have taken a car down this road anyway... lol.

Me too! On Saturday night, we got about 9-10 inches of new snow, combined with high winds that left big drifts everywhere. I was coming home from a party Sunday morning (day light), and came across several roads that hadn't yet been plowed. I was in AWD, but shifted the t-case into 4Hi and absolutely kicked ass through the drifts. No problem at all. It was fun to be able to use it...and actually in a situation that required it.

Way more fun to roll through inches of Snow in 2h , i only use 4wd when i can't move, or have others in the car...

It really helps with your vehicle control when you drive it like that too.

In my case, 2Hi would have rendered the truck stuck. AWD wasn't enough to get through the deepest drifts. That's when 4Hi came to the rescue.

Check, and check. My son had an awesome time. Once we got unstuck he was acting out the maneuvers (he's six) while I was surveying the 4R just to see how mucky we got.

Now, if this storm had of been snow instead of rain, we'd have 40 inches right now, and I'd be doing what Qyota was doing. Or just spinning out and having fun in 2WD. Hard pack snow in parking lots and on hills, etc., though, doesn't feel nice in 2WD. In 4WD I can feel the grip of the beast. :spider:
