On a more serious note, remember one thing...the Duratracs are not that much different than the Nittos...Duratracs have a killer look for sure to go along with all-terrain tread design, but STRENGTH-wise, it is no better than REVOs, Nitto TGs, Michelin LTX AT-2, etc.... So, if i were the type that goes off-roading often over rocks or mountain passes, then i would not get Duratracs...you're just putting yourself at risk for "slice and dice" courtesy of the rocks. Are the Duratracs even designed for airing down???? How long do they last??? History? They are apparently fairly noisy for an AT tire too...so, why not just spend a few extra $$ for the BFG AT KO or Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor??? These are true AT tires with a strong build. In other words, i don't see the Duratracs as any different than what you have now, RonM...it may give you slightly more traction off-road due to slightly more aggressive tread design, but that's about it.
"You get what you pay for" is a good rule to live by.

I don't want KOs because of their subpar perfromance (firsthand experience counts) on pavement/wet weather which is a big deal on a daily driver IMO and like I've said the Nittos have treated me quite well even off road many times over 4 years and never had traction issues and never had any problems so I don't see what the big deal is. I think the Duratracs will do fine for the intermediate off roader but wants DD manners intact.
You might wipe your butt with Nittos Thai but you sure must love to hump a set of BFGs. :bigok:

Big deal? Just ask BlairB why his friend's (not HB4x4) Nitto got shredded recently....
You may think that...but my recommendations for tires have been unbias unlike some Nitto fanatic i know...in fact, ask HB4X4 what i told him to get for his next tire. For YOU, i wonder who you love more? Obama or Nitto?

How am I biased when I've driven on 3 sets of BFGs since '93 on a couple of Toyota PUs and I've driven on a few other sets of tires on friend's trucks and IMO first hand experience I know Nittos are better on a day to day basis and I've had over 30 off road trips on my Nittos and never an issue but then again I'm not some hardcore off roader but then again if I was I wouldn't be buying BFG KOs or Nittos.
There's alot of Nittos out there now and it's not like you're seeing rampant problems or even any consistent problems with them but after saying that all I went with the Goodyears since I wanted something different but I was glad I tried the Nittos and I got over 4 years (almost 5) and over 45k miles on them with zero problems.
Some people will have problems with any tire just like I read about BFGs being hard to balance,out of round and their subpar wet perfromance but that doesn't ruin it for every BFG buyer if they never have a problem with their set.
I do prefer my Nittos over Obama right now. :hello:

I wouldn't put the blame on the tires for Drew's blowout. It would have happened with any tire because it got punctured by something metal. My guess was a railroad spike.

Yes,there's usually more to the story than simply a bad tire. There's alot of Nittos on this forum and I've read very little on problems with them. Nittos aren't the best tire out there but they are decent and are considerably cheaper than BFGs and in this economy a deal goes along ways.

I am in the process of replacing mine, but that's because a) I have a LOT more weight than I did when I first purchased them, and b) their LT rated only come in an E rating which I don't want.

According to Blair, this is only a guess. Anything could have popped the Nitto. The bottom line is that you read a lot more stories about off-road mishaps with the nittos than with BFG AT KO. This is fact and is backed by how the tires are constructed.

It is interesting that you wrote this because it shows your bias...according to GOODYEAR website, the Duratracs are not all that great in dry NOR wet weather, as compared to the other AT tire they offer (Wrangler SilentArmor), nor is it quiet BTW. You do care about on-road performance since you've been harping about it for so long! If you're really true to what you say, then Wrangler SilentArmor would have been a much better choice.

So, to be more accurate about what YOU really wanted (and not what you wrote), YOU wanted a tire that is cheap and looks "cool." I have no problem if you came out and said that. Based on the Goodyear rating, those Duratracs are probably not any better than BFG AT KO on-road (worst?) and are probably noisier too! But, you're right, they are significantly cheaper than Wrangler SA and BFG AT KO.
