I hated renewing my tags when I lived in IN. When my car was new it was over $600 the first few years. :infidel:

In NY it goes by weight. The 2 year registration for the T4R is $111.50 & is $103.50 for my '09 Accord.

29 in alabama?? dang...ya'll got a state income tax tho.

Usually runs 9.00 bucks for the test and about 81.00 bucks for tags here in Nashville...no matter what you drive.

I was thinking about moving to Al but just cant get past another tax.

Phoenix is the same way. They base it on the value of the vehicle. How they determine that value, I am not sure. Probably initial cost - depreciation.

Texas is about $40 a year for inspection and registration based on weight. My 100 series is about $80-90 a year.

Lifetime registration in Montana with no inspections, it was like 120 for me when I did a title transfer, plates, lifetime registration. We also have largest selection of custom plates and a new almost entirely black plate I want.

Yeah its based on the base MSRP of the vehicle when it was brand new.

I just paid......$720.xxx for one lousy year...

Yes it is.

But those fees were on a new vehicle the wife just bought.

Only plus side to being military is the price of tags when you leave out of state. Any car $24.95 and my motorcycle was $16.95 a year when I had it.

When I was in South Carolina back in 2000 they tried such for two years. I was paying my taxes on a nine year old Acura when a lady came in to the property tax office that day to pay her tax bill on her new Lexus GS400 I think it was. The bill was over $1000. The lady fainted and the EMS was called. Priceless.

Mine was $12 this year.

Not sure how they determine it here. My mother has an '04 T4R, and I renewed hers at the same time - it was $86.01.

In NY they have a luxury tax on new purchases only. I think it's 5% on vehicles over $60K.

No, it's just a property tax that applies to all vehicles. It's a percent of the appraised value of the vehicle. The car was about $40k new, so someone with a new 4Runner would be paying even more than that. Taxed to death!:tape2:

California registration fees are pretty pricey but I guess not the worst. But, it's the sales tax that really reams you. Pretty good system California has. They get the original sales tax from the person who bought it new and then they get sales tax revenue every time it's sold to a new party.

Also, California's smog emissions make things more expensive. If you want a catalytic converter that has the California stamp of approval, you're going to pay a hell of a lot more than one that is ok for the other 49 states. And, the catalytic converters that don't have the California stamp will allow you to pass a smog test in California. But, If you install a non-California catalytic converter and the tech doing the test notices it, you'll be failed on the visible inspection.

I enjoy living in California but I'm starting to think I'm going to abandon ship when I retire. It's just way expensive to live here.
