Gotta love the rear roll-down window!

Got some 14 ft tree from lowes and brought it home in my 4R to plant. Had no problem putting it in 4R and was about 8 ft out of the window. Enjoyed the stare from 60K Escalade !! :D

That roll-down rear window is the reason I started thinking about and looking into buying a runner.

I was at Home Depot one day, and a guy was just finishing up loading a bunch of lumber into a 3rd gen, w/lumber sticking out the back window. I started talking to the guy, and told him that's what I need -- can't stick lumber out the back window of my Highlander. I was thinking I wanted something slightly bigger than the Highlander I had at the time, but I didn't want to stray from the Toyota brand -- too frigging reliable to buy anything else.

Anyway, I eventually bought a 2009 4th Gen used and sold my Highlander. That back window started the process. Now I can't imagine having an SUV without a back window that opens.
 
I do the same thing. I bought all the wood to make a workbench and had 8' and 10' 2x4's the whole width of the window. To top it off i also had a cut sheet of plywood on top of that. An 8 foot 2x4 barely even sticks out with the seats down. I just put a moving blanket over the door to help give it some padding.

Thats going to be a nice looking tree. I have a much smaller japenese maple i bought and still need to plant. (also rode home in the 4Runner :) )
 
This is chinese pistachio and planted last weekend. All that rain past couple of days helped.

This is is my 4th toyota is about 7 years. (I only sold to upgrade, not other reason :D )

Ok, I'll bite...

I love my new 4runner also!! The window rolling down is just one of the many, many features I totally dig.

I was driving the other day and a delivery truck rolled up behind me at a stop light..The driver and passenger in the truck were trying to figure out what was in the back of my runner (fridge)..I could see them talking a looking, I rolled down the window and they laughed and gave me a thumbs up..

I just figured out the console lid front flip thing the other day, super handy for the cell phone..
 
And it's great I you tow a boat, too! We buzz it down and toss in the transom saver and folded-up travel cover when readying the boat for launch. Also keep wheel chocks in there.
 
It's great after parking for a while on a hot day to roll down / roll back all 6 windows for a while.

An 18 wheeler quit tailgating me on I-20 once I rolled it down.
Suppose he though a family of high speed lead peanuts might be on its way through the window opening. (he would have been right)
 
I park in the same spot everyday I hit the button to roll down the rear when I am walking up to the car. I get in and roll down the front window. I start her up put in reverse and drive in reverse for about 40 yards. I find this to be extremely effective at flushing out the old hot stale air in the car. Much more effective than driving forward for some reason.
 
the only negative part of having the window come down is the fumes that enter the cabin when you accelerate....other than that its a great feature.

Some people relocate the tailpipe on the side in order to circumvent this issue.
 
Not sure if I told this story yet or not but here it goes: First day of ownership (first hour for that matter) I walked into a store, blah blah, got talking to the cashier about my new 4r and he could see it thru the store window, he says to me " did you buy it with a broken back window?"....I laughted "no man, its a 4runner, it goes down!

I like it for when people let me cut infront of them in traffic, I just hit the button, let the auto down feature take over and give them a thank you wave thru the back window. It's just something people don't expect.

I always liked the ability to roll the rear window down. I like it 1000 x more since I had the tailpipe relocated!
