Gotta start somewhere... my first little mod

I did my very first mod after owning my 4Runner for 6 months. I added the assist handle to the driver's side above the side window. Took 5 minutes and about $20.

Now, of all the great mods here, what do I spend my money on next? Hmmmm...

Where did you get them from for $20? My local yota dealer wanted more like $40 all said and done.

$40 is a rip off. Try PARTZNET. You should be able to get them for a heck of a lot cheaper than that. I think I saw as low as $25. I got mine from the dealer, but I had an inside contact, so got the parts cheap. Try a search of "assist handle". I know I saw some threads that quoted cheaper prices than that!

is the handle made specific made for driver's side? or will a passenger side do as well?

I was kinda thinking of getting the dealer to move mine from the windshield post where I'll never use it, to the spot over the door thereby getting it out of my line of sight. I guess I can do it myself?

All of the handles above the windows are the same part number, so they are all identical. There are two different plugs that cover up the screws, so make sure they don't order two of the same thing as they are slightly different shaped.

Part numbers:

74603-60010-B0 Grip subassembly
74617-60050-B0 Plug
74617-60040-B0 Plug
93381-26030 Screws

I believe the A-Frame assist handle is a different part #. You could move one of the three "above the window" handles already installed. Pop out the plugs, and two screws to remove.

My plain jane SR5 4WD came with the handle already installed on the driver's side. Just lucky or is it standard with 4WD??

Lucky. I don't think any of them come with it standard.

Originally I was going to buy a white Runner and then changed my mind. The one I got was a trade from another dealer. It already had the floor mats, roof rack and so on.
