government advance already spent?

I tried google and the IRS website and didn't find anything official. There was one article that said IF the bonus is approved it would net between $300 and $600 to individuals.
Because it's only passed the House, not the Senate. So the best advice is to not spend it until you get it! :)

Personally, if the goal is to boost the slumping economy, I wish they'd shovel the money into some sort of infrastructure. Propose some new highways or something that will a) give people jobs b) spend money and c) LEAVE US WITH SOMETHING IN THE LONG RUN.

I'm all for having extra cash, but seriously, this is not a long term fix. Plus, a recession is part of the normal business cycle of an economy. If people just realize and understand that then the recession won't turn into a depression. Just keep spending your money like normal!

Thats the problem is people don't have money to spend. I am in the finance industry and it is killing everyone. People who had ARM (adj rate mrtg) loans had their house payments near double or increase dramatically, causing them to default. Property values are plummetting banks are reducing people's HELOC (home equity line of credit) limits since the property is now not worth the initial loan amt which means people can't draw from the lines anymore. Not as many homes arent being built so real estate agents are feeling it, lumber yards arent selling as much, concrete contractors aren't laying as many foundations, etc etc. These people can't pay thier bills so the people and companies they owe cant pay and it just eventually involves near everyone in a lot of industries. I am sitting at my desk everyday watching this thing snowball. Anyone look at their 401K gains/losses lately? Just gonna have to ride it out. It will make a comeback so now is the time to buy if you have the money. Espically in stocks.

Ron, are you planning on going big time with your subs? I LOVE speakers... lemme know how that goes!

nah I am going for portability-I frequently have the dog in the cargo area so I am leaning towards the Infinity Basslink I-which is self powered and auto shut off with no music signal. I am not into a separate amp and subwoofer set up.

I am an old dude only looking to attract divorced hotties, not win glass blowing or hatch shaking contests.:bash:

I'm not doubting the housing crunch. However, I don't see how $300 bucks to each person is going to save the day. That will cover some of your house loan. Or a more likely circumstance, it will cover a night of drinking, a pair of jeans and some groceries. I still see a better chance of turning things around by using the money elsewhere.

On a side note -- you're right about the stocks. My 401k is pretty aggressive with most of my contributions tied up in international. I'm thinking of shuffling them around some but definitely buying more. Just ride it out either way...

First, it's $600 per person for the majority of Americans, not $300. And the idea is to spark the economy by putting money out there that will be spent on durable and non-durable goods. If everyone decided to sock that cash away in their savings account, or use it to pay down debt, then it will do little to help the economy.
