I don't completely disagree but politicAL straw man arguments tend to be self congratulatory.By saying, " you are wrong and I know because of your political leaning or beliefs" is in fact no discussion at all and just boils down to name calling.

Agreed. Most people are passionate about their strongly-held beliefs, be they political, moral, what have you. As a result, it's just too easy to get into a heated argument when confrontational things are just thrown out there, because one tends to be a bit protective of his own position. That's what got me off Facebook years ago, and keeps me off any other social media - the fighting and judgmental comments and general BS. This right here is my only social media today.

While politics do affect virtually every part of our lives, and perhaps not in a good way, it is wise to have a rule against it on this forum. The intent, I believe, is not so much to eliminate every single political comment (because you can't ban everyone), but to keep the ugliness off the forum.

The mods have recently been warning posters about political arguments. But if you look at the forum rules it’s not actual political topics that are banned, but purposefully rude disruptive posting as described under
3. No Trolling or Posts For the Purpose of Instigating Flame Wars which is what political discussions almost always result in. The mods can clamp down and ban under their discretion to maintain order. Remember, this is a private forum, 1st amendment doesn’t apply. Gotta be nice.

I think you and I are a decent example of two guys who disagree and are civil about it. I think we both know we’re not going to argue each other into our point of view. Plus, I’ve learned some things about your point of view because you’re willing to explain it.

Then it's a waste of time even talking about it. It's an issue that is intertwined with politics so if politics can't be a part of it there is no worthwhile discussion. Times have changed.
