GPS Advice?!

So Costco has four GPS's available right now for pretty good prices. The cheapest of which was a Tom Tom for 99$. And then there was a Garmin for 325$ or something like that.

Which GPS do you all have?

I'm looking for a thin/sleek GPS that has night time mode :)

Recommendations?

Yes, i do. It tells me where to go on my final destination, what street i am on, what street is coming up next, and my speed limit. I know it can do other things like searching the next gas stn, hotel, hospital, etc. But i only use it when i go on long trips or if i'm lost especially in Denver, CO.

I have Garmin Nuvi 650 and Magellan Roadmate 2200t.

Magellan, IMO, is more rugged, amd can be used as a "crossover" unit - bike, motorcycle, handheld, etc...

Garmin has an awesome 4.3 inch display.

Support leaves a lot to be desired on both. I think Garmin stands behind their products better than Magellan does. Also, there are more maps for other countries and parts of the world for Garmin.

Both are great for basic gps unit function of getting you where you need to go. Both have night modes (I think they all do).

Should have jumped on for the Black Friday GPS deals! :thumb3:

I got myself a Garmin nuvi 285w, and I love it! It has 4.3 inch touchscreen, day/night modes, Bluetooth for phone, traffic updates (I think 3 free months, charged after that) picture slideshow (extraneous, but whatever), as well as bike and pedestrian modes. It's quite snappy, though the screen doesn't update as fast as I type in addresses, it still recognizes the input and makes everything perfect. Only $75 when I got it, I find it to be an excellent unit.
 
The Tom Tom user interface is terrible. Stick with Garmin.

I've had both and now have several Garmin's hand-held and car mount.
 
I've got a Garmin 265WT. It does all I want it to and more. I actually won it, but for a good unit it's hard to beat. I've had several different brands, and it is by far the best I've had. Very user friendly, accurate, quick recalculations, text to speech, and as mentioned a very nice 4.3 inch display. While you can save bucks on an off brand with similar features, I highliy recommend one of the Garmins.

Get the one at Costco!!

I think it's the 1405...I forgot the model number. It's a 5" droool.

I have the Garmin 765wt w/ lane assist.

The 1405 is basically mine, but 5" LCD....droool.

And be sure to grab the Nav Mat.

Go for the Garmin Nuvi Series, I Myself have a Garmin Nuvi 255W, its a great GPS navigator, and has great signal quality
 
I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and 885. Both are very good. I've had a old Magellan Roadmate before, it wasn't bad, but took a long time for a GPS fix. Most newer GPS use the SiRF GPS receiver chipsets and those lock in a GPS fix much faster.

I had Tom Tom on my Treo before, if their GPS unit software is anything like that, then I have to say it sucks. But I've heard that Tom Tom has user customizable maps, so you don't have to wait for annual map updates from GPS manufacturer. Basically if you live in a new development area, and have savvy users, they can add street names and mapping there.

The other thing is how much you'll like their maps. Garmin and Magellan both uses NavTech maps. Tom Tom maps are supplied by another provider.
