GPS Antenna Location?

Got a good deal at Crutchfield for the add-on NAV accessory for my Kenwood head unit. Got it all wired up and working, but wanted to know where others have installed the GPS antenna for their nav systems?

Right now I have it sitting atop the corner of the dash on the passenger side. Works fine there, but I'd like to get it out of sight. Thinking of drilling a hole through the roof, but not too excited about that along with dropping the headliner to access the wire.

Also considered trying to run the wire through the windshield and mounting it just above there as I've seen some XM antennas run. Not sure how to do this though.

Any advice or opinions would be great.

Thanks!

My current Kenwood nav antenna is mounted under/behind the dash, completely out of sight. It works perfectly. My unit is the DNX-7140 so maybe that has a different antenna?

I have my nav and sat radio antenna mounted in the center of the black plastic valence between the wipers. Never had bad reception with either there. I just drilled a hole through the firewall and ran the wires up.

Thanks for the input. Do you guys have any trouble with signal/reception with it mounted in those slightly obscured locations?

The directions say to make sure you have a direct view of the sky from the antenna, and it also came with a ~3" diameter metal disk that the antenna is supposed to be mounted on.

None, it is almost always 4 or 5 bars. I have dropped signal once in the past year for a minute or two. GPS isnt as touchy as satellite radio is. That I have on my roof, but the GPS is under the dash.
