Congrats on the engineering degree. My dad graduated from Chico State.

My 2cents: be slow to buy a house. Everyone seems to rush into it in my opinion. Most of my coworkers bought houses and are trapped, unable to move for their careers. I personally know 3 engineers who had to short sell their houses for a total loss. Even now, 1/3 of all US mortgages are under water. There is no evidence the market has bottomed out and the US may be swinging towards a full depression, especially if the Euro breaks apart. Sorry but just wanted to warn you.

I have a 10 year plan to buy a house. Save for 10 years then buy with a lot down.

I'll go further to say keep the 4runner and don't "upgrade".

Everybody has a engineering degree. You are replaceable.

Run what you have, cash in any money you make and be smart about your money.

This is the most important time to become debt free and maintain that. Put the money towards your student loan. Vehicles are bad investments, no matter how you look at it.

For the money, Cummin's aren't great investments. They have high service costs with short duration repairs. Any modifications are expensive and net no returns.

Our cultures have to get away from the "wants" and get back to the "needs". Advertising has us brainwashed.

Well Mr. Shibby, I have to slightly disagree.

Everyone does not have a BS of Engineering but I realize academically it isn't the top of the ladder.

That said, very few Americans have a degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and those who do still have some of the best employment opportunities in America upon graduating.

Its tough out there but if you are a STEM grad and willing to relocate for work then you can probably find it.

We are all replaceable now thanks to globalization and tax policies that encourage off shoring of jobs.

More likely, yes, but not for sure. There are lots of other people biting to have your job with likely more experience.

New grads don't get paid much, companies may not be wanting to pay to train them. New hires tend to not be profitable for a long duration of time.

Just saying, why waste money at this critical point in time. It's a life lesson to pay off debt, not increase it.

I'm nearly 30 years, a mechanical engineer, and I'm fulling understanding that Canada is in a recession, and our recession isn't comparable to the US in scale of size, but still we're in a **** position. Our interest tax is as low as it can go which is creating a false sense of security to some. The government is clear they want to raise it, but know they can't.

Statistically speaking, Canadians have increased their debt to levels the Americans were at before the crunch. It shocks me how people think "it won't happen to me!", or "Canada is safe". Ah... Look at the statement prior to this. Not only that, Canada is a deporting country. We sell raw resources to other countries. We're very closely knit to their economic conditions.

I know I'm rambling, I apologize for that.
