Now that we're starting to see talk of the new Grand Highlander, I am wondering if it will it look like a longer highlander or will Toyota redesign it?
I dont find the highlander to be a good looking vehicle.
With Toyota it's always hard to predict.
Remember, "Highlander" started out as a trim package for the 4Runner years before Toyota made it a separate model.
I think it'll be a scaled up highlander. Not just longer, but also wider and taller. The RXL was a hot mess visually. And Lexus has a big hole in its SUV lineup where the escalade, Denali, Navigator, and also the GLS and X7. So I expect that the larger SUV will need to be more than a few inches added to the length of a highlander. The current highlander is close in size to a Land Cruiser/4Runner. I anticipate the grand highlander to be more akin to sequoia size externally. Maybe 120 inch wheelbase, 8 seats, and lots of cargo room and 30mpg, vs the sequoia being the HD version at 24mpg.
Lexus dealer want a sequoia in lexus trim, not a 3 row RX. But I think that's what they're going to get. And the LC600 is functionally a 2 row now - the rear seat is even smaller than the LX570, so currently Lexus doesn't even have a legit 3 row model. The GX IIRC now has more 3rd row room than the LX600.
I find this front clip on the highlander to look a lot better to me than the standard version:
It is...grimacing in pain. The current highlander is one of the ugliest vehicles out there, especially from the back. How would you feel if your kin got hit with that big of an ugly stick?
I don't know. The first time I saw my neighbor's brand new '21 Highlander Limited, I thought the tailpipe was about to fall off and the poor thing had a slightly bent frame. Then I realized those two features looked like that by design.
But I really got a laugh when they popped up the liftgate to load some everyday things in the back. It almost immediately proved to be too small for their needs. I even asked them if the cargo area had enough room for them and their kids.
Highlander is just a lifted minivan Sequoia is Toyota's large SUV. You can even get them with the TRD stickers and all that BS now. If I was going to drive a station wagon it would be a Volvo Polestar.
