grate or grill to protect amp

hey guys,

after looking and asking around quite a bit, it doesn't seem that anyone produces any kind of grate to protect amps. i have two amps screwed into the back of the left rear seat of my 2008, and would love to be able to rig something to protect them. i know that they need to have airflow, but i am thinking it would be nice to have some kind of protection over them when i fold the seat down so i could put bikes or skis or something and not worry about them hitting the amp.

any ideas on where i can find some kind of sections of grated material, like they use on pet cages or something?

any ideas about this sort of project? i'm not very handy so any advice is appreciated.

I"m not sure how big your amp is and if its used for lows or mids but if you can, under the driver or passenger seat is always good. if you're concerned with airflow, you could easily make a small box with an intake and exhaust fan.

Theres really a lot of places that you can put it, you could even put it under the cargo rack thing that lifts up (if you have a 4th gen)

well i had them installed there so they won't be moving. i think i found something perfect to cover them. so my next question is - did the installer drill in specific spots in the seat like finding studs in the wall, or is it uniformly "drillable?"

there aren't any studs like a wall in a house but just a MDF back so you wont have any problems with support (unless it's really heavy).

my installer is telling me to aim for a few metal pieces that run through the seat. says the mdf is pretty thin and if something were to pull on the grate, it could be bad. i'm having trouble figuring out where the metal is by tapping the seat back. any ideas?

disregard last post. left seat back feels pretty solid. don't think anything awful will happen if grate gets pulled a little.

in case anyone was curious how this ended up...

i think it looks ok with the seats up, which is how it will normally be. the idea here was to keep things like ski boots from leaning against it, maybe protecting it from water dripping down. also to give them some guaranteed ventilation.

had to cut off a good portion here so there would be no contact with the storage compartment, so it doesn't look great folded down, but still offers some protection.

those amp are small enough to fit under both driver and passenger seat, more better than the covers. maybe u want to try to put those amp under the seat.
