Just starting a thread as we strive to put this jewel back together. After a botched idiot mechanic I had to sorce another engine. It is in and runs good.
Plans are:
1. Stereo system-ordered

2. carpet and sound deadened and insulated-ordered from OC carpets for 233.00 plus 75 shipping and 50 or so mastic and eva.

3. Installed new wagner headlights, what an appearance difference!

4. dash carpet pad or repair

5. clean SR5 seats from wrecked runner and install new cables, paint tracks etc.

6. install new tires 235/75/15 on OEM rims I picked up.-DONE

7. install new extra fuse box or two.- ordered

8. put redline in tranny if consensus here demands it lol

9. install shotgun upright holder from galls or other(I live in Georgia)

10. Paint in time, AC, get the sag out, shocks, rear bumper, chrome grill, etc.

I just replaced the heater plate yesterday. I got a new one off eBay that had the clock and A/C holes already cut out. Pull off the knobs and use a tiny flat head screwdriver to pop out the old one and press the new one in place. It truly takes about two minutes. The new ones on eBay right now seem a little expensive. I think they are about $31 from a Toyota parts dealer:

5551989143. Toyota. LENS, HEATER CONTROL INDICATOR. INDICATOR (RN5#,6#,7#,VZN6#).

I like the above dealer. I've ordered some small parts from them and they came quickly.
 
I got mine for about $25 a few months ago. The ones on eBay the other day were $50 plus shipping.

There is a lot of procrastinating going on with this 4Runner. It suffers from "might as well." As in "I might as well wait until I have the dash apart to replace the stereo." So I waited.

It took more than 24 hours for these pictures to upload to Photobucket from my iPhone4. The phone was working fine until the 6's came on the market. Apple is Satan.

Here are some pictures of the carpet sound deadener from OC carpets. It is heavy. Added 50 bucks to my shipping cost to get this and an eva mat I will post up later.





We pulled the top today. Makes it easier to work in the back. Weather is cooling a little in the southeast. Been a hot September. Bought the frost king plumbing wrap and used it for sound deader and insulation. Bought several rolls at Home cheapo and two today at Lowes. !8.77 both places. I think the Home cheapo had a peel off backing where the Lowes model did not. I will check the specs and update.



 
Although this runner appears rust free we shot a little rustoleom rust reformer paint in the holes in the back. Never spray silicone spray until you put a lot of thought into it. Ask me how I know!

That was Grayson and his friend. My daughter pitched in after a trip to the Dollar General for upholstery cleaner and cleaned the rear we had from the shop where we could ride three. It was kinda dark but the before and after is siginificant.





This is a better after on the tan hood of an 82 diesel P/U.



Here is a pic of the inside before we cleared the junk and started yesterday afternoon. Got the passenger SR5 seat cleaned and the base painted. Hope to get the new cable in tomorrow. The second set of RCA wires are supposed to be here from Amazon.

Ordered 3 sheets of the peel and stick from Mcmaster Carr today. Really nice to deal with and only 13 bucks to ship to me from Atlanta. Should arrive tomorrow. We are doing inside the doors with it.

Getting back after it tomorrow. Planning on running 6 or 8 circuits to the back from the engine bay. Will loop them in the mid section in case I want to utilize some of them there. Here is a pic topless. Rain moving in tomorrow evening so have to clean out under the shed.



On another note this thing hisses on top of the valve cover. As they say in the vernacular "What up wit that?"



And finally here are the sub boxes we build the other night. I did not put enough design time into them combined with thinking out the interior areas of a 1st gen. They should work but in hindsight I could have been smarter.

Everyday I learn something is a good day!



 
This camera is a piece of crap but all I have. I guess I will start using my phone but the PB uploader app ADR. (ain't doin right) as my biology teacher says.

Stopped by my favorite stealer today and picked up some essentials.



The door runner is specific to the wing window models. The vent window is essential to living in the Deep South.!





And the weatherstrip piece at the top of the door.

 
Plugs didn't look so hot. Runs better immediately.



Got all the floor done before laying the underlay from OC. Hopefully this weekend we can get the amp mounted and complete the stereo, install the carpet and get the fronts in so we can have a no precipitation day driver. I think we used close to 6 rolls of the 12 inch x 15 inch duct wrap. Silicone hoses arrived yesterday and we started them. 70 bucks is a lot for 3 hoses. I was thinking you got all the little pieces on the firewall but I thought wrong. The clamps are awesome and heavy duty.



Think I took a few pics with my phone. Will go through the process...it is one..
 
A little more progress

Got the alpine head unit in and the unit off ebay the other poster here had up. It seems as it may work with the shifter but the tray won't clear the bottom of radio trim. I will take the drawer to my cabinet buddy and sand it down some and try it. We secured it with some plumbers hanging iron.





As you can see I am running my lighter fused straight and alone for plug in handheld flood, heater etc.





Pretty nice for 12 bucks shipped straight from the population capital of the world. Came fast.
 
Couple more pictures. Put the clock out of the wrecked SR5 in. Plugged right up with existing unused plug. Crutchfield told me via phone that was a rear speaker feed. Don't believe everything you hear.



 
Put the peel and stick in the doors. It wasn't incredibly sticky so we helped it a little. Been several days and its still hanging in. The CRC stuff seems good. I can't recall a bad experience with their products except never having a cap on any spray can. That's a byproduct of having children.





 
My drivers window was hanging up and upon investigation I found a piece broken that meshes these two tracks together. It was also broke on the drivers on the wreck but the passenger door was not. A guy in town makes blades for saw mills and such and has a high dollar welder to weld blades together. I am going to see if I can fix mine. I guess the rubber would cover it but I want it strong and without future failure factor. There should be a tab that comes off the bottom track in the photo and sets in the depression on the upper. Dang PO's jamming it up with shot weatherstripping. Some of my pictures didn't come up. The photobucket we get for free.....

 
Flipped the SR5 seats over and worked on them to preserve them. It had been rained in a while and the wire supports are damaged some. I am going to spray with a rust reformer, prime and paint. Put some wire ties on the reinforce the m as a few wires are broken.





I am not sure how the passenger seat operates. I bought a new cable that attaches at three points. What attaches to the lever here? Is there a second cable. Anyone have the part #?


 
I slid cardboard under the wire to keep from painting the foam. Found a brush guard on CL last weekend. Nice and heavy for 80 bucks. Want to protect this ride from deer. They growem big down my way. I smashed a 99 Surburban a few years ago on a big one. Got all the front end including radiator and trans cooler. Ouch!:gun6: Have to take it apart and blast it and get it repainted. I am not crazy about the looks but function over beauty wins out. Got the front carpet laid, pics to come. Waiting on some additional speaker wire to wire for the rears and get the rear carpet in. I also have scraps of the carpet I ordered if anyone wants a swatch send me a SASE with two stamps and I'll send you a piece for color comparison. Its a little darker than the vinyl in this truck. My front seats were from an SR5 and I believe are darker than the rears. I'll post photos of it when it comes together. PM me for an address if you need the carpet swatch.
