grease in brake drums 95 t4r

The right rear brake grabs. Removed drums and found grease like substance inbedded in pads and other spots. Is this a rear seal leak? and how tough to fix by myself.

It could be a rear seal leak or a brake cylinder leaking. Don't know the level of your mechanical expertise so can't make a judgment on that.

happened to me, mine was a seal leak. I had to remove the leak, brought it to a place cuz they had to press it in. Cant do it by hand. My old one had a bit of free play, new one is a little tighter

It's most likely the axle seal leaking gear oil thru.
If you're handy you can replace it yourself.
Also check for a Toyota service bulletin on the problem, there was a problem in the 94-96 time frame with axle leaks, the axle shaft wore causing the leak.

Axles came out easily enough (surprised was I). sent it off to a machine shop to have new seals and bearings put in. While the thing is off the road will put new springs in the back. I checked all the bolts and they will all come out. I like the truck btu with 265 k parts need replacing. Wish me luck

Will do, they kept promising the springs will be here tomorrow. I do not have them yet.

You have an axle seal leak. This is a tricky one to repair. The axle and backing plate assy have to be removed to replace the inner seal and the axle bearing has to be pressed off using a toyota special tool to replace the outer seal. New brake shoes will have to be installed and the drums should be resurfaced to remove contaminants. Some success has been had replacing just the inner seal but you are gambling with your new brake shoes if this repair does not work.

Grease in brake drums

95 t4r on the road and running. Rplaced inner and outer seals, bearrings and shoes. I had a shop press the bearrings off and new ones on. Pulling and replacing axles went well. Next job is springs but curious about bushings to replace etc. This job will wait a few weeks yet.
