Comes with a 2 way long range remote and a 1 way
OEM remote activation can be turned on using 3 times lock or lock, unlock and lock from factory fob

Regular key will use an additional t-harness part ADS-THR-TL5 (truck stays running when you open the door and allows key take over)
Push-to-start uses t-harness ADS-THR-TL7 (truck shuts down when you open the door)

The parts will be bundled in the price if you select installation.

Expect long wait time this time of year to get an appointment.

these have been going on sale every few weeks or so. bought one on black friday. gunna need it here for NE winters
 
Looking at the install guide for regular key it all plug and place except:
Negative parking light
RDA data wire for locks
Interupt autolight wire if it has it


Limited push to start is all plug and play
They will add a tilt switch under the hood to prevent the remote start from operating if it's open unless there is already hood switch detection built into the hood latch.

Ok, so maybe someone can explain this. Are the included key fobs optional with the set up? I didn't see anything on the product page listing the use of the OEM keyfob.

Also, are Best Buy installers capable of these jobs? I know it says install included, but can their techs be trusted?
 
Compustar systems seem to be popular and a mystery at the same time. Following to see how good of a deal this really is.

Using OEM fob is vehicle dependent, but will work if turned on with a 5th gen.

As far as the tech, you can get a really good one or a really bad one no matter where you go. Look for MECP advanced or Master certified. Good thing is these are t-harnesses.
 
Just wanted to share my experience:

Geek squad is really clueless on how to install this tbh. Multiple best buy's refused to install, and one tried and couldn't do it before I found one that installed it.

Things to keep an eye out for:

T-Harness in latest deal isn't included as far as I saw, that's another $30.

There is extra work/parts needed if you want to get this install perfect:

1. I upgraded my stereo to a Pioneer with the iDatalink Maestro RR which plugs into the OBD port. Whenever the remote start is activated and the Maestro is plugged in the whole system crashes and doesn't work. Turn's out it messes with the remote starts brain as it links up to OBD port too. So for now I have my Maestro unplugged, until I can come back for them to install a relay. The Maestro is nice because I can have basic vehicle info such as tire pressure, engine code, etc. Have to give it up for now. Apparently this is true for anything in the OBD port when attempting a remote start. I wouldn't suggest testing it because it requires re-flashing/re-configuring the unit

2. For standard key owners (not push to start), the process of taking over the vehicle after remote start includes: Unlocking car, getting in and turning key to ON, then pumping brake once. If you don't want someone accidentally going all the way to ignition then you can piggyback off the same relay I will have installed in point #1.

3. My car's battery drained the 2nd day after install. Diagnosing it I originally thought maybe the brain of the remote start has some power draw when idle. Realized that's not the case. What happened after some troubleshooting is my 2018 TRD OR normally shuts off all headlights/interior lights after I turn my car off and exit the driver door. Key is exiting the driver door.

I did some googling and found out the 4Runner looks for a driver door open signal to start a 30sec timer to turn off all lights after you've exited the vehicle. Normally I manually turn off all my lights, but every now and then forget, this feature is great considering our cars don't have auto headlights. So I contacted compustar for a fix, apparently I have to bring it back into Best buy so "The tech will need to make a change to the Driver Door Trigger and set rearm to After Shutdown".

Also the entire reason I put up with Best Buy to do this is for the warranty on the install. Which honestly at his point I'm doubting is worth much. But better peace of mind.

The included key fob are not required but definitely have better range than normal one.

The unit has an antennae so you can buy any other compustar key fob that's compatible with your unit and easily pair it to your car. (Simple sequence of turning key between ACC and ON 5x, then clicking Antennae button, then clicking a button on the key fob).

Remote start just looks for sequence you can set (I set mine to Lock,Unlock,Lock to prevent accidental start). So any OEM key is fine as long as you perform the sequence you set, but you're limited by range/line of sight.

Best Buy techs are hit or miss. Had a couple refuse to install because they don't know how, one tried and couldn't get it working (3hrs of my Friday yay), the last one was great though. Also in my area they are booked at least a month out.
 
T-Harness is included, just enter your vehicle follow the steps on check out and it will bundle.
As far as the headlights, you are leaving the headlight switch on, letting the vehicle run then never opening a door. They will stay on indefinitely. Nothing in the install guide covers your scenario, so I can't blame the tech.

Ya the aside from point 1, the points I listed above are extra work to get the install “perfect”. The remote start still works.

But the frustration comes from the fact it took 3 appointments to get the basic kit installed.

Also at one point a tech tried to convince me my fobs were broken and to just deal with using my oem key.. they never paired the fobs to the unit.. 1min later working like it’s supposed to. So yeah lol, not a good experience
 
4900s has a step down brain and no separate harness to get or t-harness capable.
4905s is t-harness or universal harness and capable of security with an alarmit-kit added on.

I agree there, the remotes are tricky to program but they should have gotten done on the first trip.

not really, you just need to know the sequence, if you have been doing it for the past 18 years it will be second nature LOL.

on your limited, trick is to NOT put foot on break as you are cycling thru the ignition to program the remotes.

[MENTION=263651]Aggie2015[/MENTION] experiences with BB are very common across the country. its hard to have good techs that are knowledgeable and reliable.

are you saying to have them install products or the hardware itself?

i have always felt that no matter what the hardware, its only as good as its install.

4900/4905s doesnt come with a harness, so thats the need for the t harness.

4900s is a CM900 brain, no t-harness.
4905s is a DC3 brain, t-harness or universal harness
