I contacted the previous owner of my recently acquired 4Runner (found his name through some sleuth work). I had been wondering if he had the valet key, which costs something like $50 to duplicate due to the chip in it. He called back today & told me some good news. First of all he did have the valet key & would send it to me. He also informed me that the vehicle's miles (30,000) were almost all highway miles, just as the dealer told me. And that it had it's maintenance faithfully done every 3,000 (as I had also previously found out via some other Sherlocking).

Lastly, he said he was real happy I contacted him as he wanted to inform me that the thing had a Lo-Jack installed in it, and he would send me all the info!

Somebody pinch me!

Thanks! The only negative thing he told me was that the wireless headphones & remote were in the truck when he traded it in. Somewhere from that point on, someone liberated them.

But that's a minor detail as I don't really know when I would use them (perhaps camping so as not to bother anyone?).

Is it possible to give the police your Navigation's GPS number and have them track a stolen vehicle that way? I wonder if the GPS number is printed on the sticker of my navigation unit?

The previous owner is sending the Lo-Jack materials & the key. The dealer was a GM place, so they couldn't cut a Toyota key due to the chip, etc.

They can track cell phones with GPS - don't know about a nav unit.

Actually it was a GM/Nissan place (I think). He got a Nissan Armada as he wanted to haul more people.
