Great TRD find on Craigslist!

[SURF RUNNER]

Friday night I bought 4 slightly used TRD wheels from this guy in Houston for $350 total. I think this is a great deal. I am going with a 1" body lift and the Sonoran 1.2 lift in the rear (Tokico shocks) and the Toytech adjustable coil over lift in the front.

I agree! That's what I did, but with my Stealth 6 wheels. Bought five (5) since I do have the intention of getting a tire carrier. Much better than keeping my old and grimy steel spare. I love how the TRDs look on your 4Runner [MENTION=102813]SURF RUNNER[/MENTION]!!! Very clean!

Thanks for the comments. I was hoping that these wheels would look good on my 4Runner, but I couldn't be for sure until they were mounted. Below is a photo that I took of the brand-new wheel that I bought about a year ago just to see how it might look.

I have a Shrockworks rear bumper/tire carrier/jerry can holder sitting in my apartment. Eventually I will have a 5th TRD wheel wrapped in a MTZ on my rear bumper, but that is a ways off, so if I can sell the 5th wheel for $99 now I will sell it... if not I'll keep it. Either way it works out OK for me.

So I bought these for $350, sold my 5-Stars for $185, and got them mounted, balanced and installed for $60. Total cost for me was $225!

Here are my thoughts on these TRD wheels, other toyota wheels, and some aftermarket options. In my opinion the three best wheels for 3rd Gens are the TRD Trails Team (silver like mine, gunmetal, or black), the TRD fake beadlocks (bronze or gunmetal), and the factory 5-Stars. I'm not sure. The lift is definitely later because I want to include new LBJs, Light Racing UCAs, and whatever else I need to replace at that time.

To get the 285 Mickey Thompson's on I'm probably going to try and get by with the 1" body lift and a Day Star lift. I need new tires now, so the Mickey Thompson's are probably going to be next.

So several comments were about the FJ TRD wheels looking better in black so I wanted to address that. Black wheels have been a very popular trend for the past several years. I understand the phenomenon and realize that some people want the "murdered out" look and others just like black wheels. I totally get it... it is just my opinion, but personally for my vehicles I hate black wheels. Obviously tires are always black and black wheels provide absolutely no contrast. Also wheels and tires are often in shadow and when everything is black and in a shadow you really can't see much of anything. What is the point of having an expensive black wheel if you can't see it in detail half the time? For me a silver wheel against a shiney black tire just looks right.

I also don't like chrome or heavily polished wheels either. On certain vehicles a gunmetal wheel looks good. If I were told that for some reason I couldn't have silver wheels, gunmetal would be my next choice.

Anyway, if people want black wheels on their vehicles I get it and I'm glad that they are happy with their choice. I would never put black wheels on my vehicle, but I am not a hater... if you want black wheels on your vehicles I am all for it. I also want readers to undertand that I realize I am probably in the minority on this... I like what I like and I can't (and don't want to) change that.

Completely understand, black wheels aren't for everyone. I think the Chrome look really good your Runner, and I don't knock people who don't like the black rim look. You can also run white letters out and it gives it some contrast from the black rims/tire.
