Green 4wd light flashing all the time, switch does nothing

So yesterday I finished putting my motor back together after the headgasket job, and finally got it to fire up yesterday after some headache. Runs and drives perfect now, except for the 4wd green light. It is constantly flashing, more rapid than normal, even though the truck is in 2wd. Moving the 4wd selector around does nothing.

I tried moving the vacuum hoses around on the vsv and looked for any plug on the harness I might have missed, but came up empty handed.

Any ideas?

Your situation isn't exactly the same as mine, but it's pretty damn close. In both cases the transfer case and/or ECU are out of sync with the 4wd selector switch after major engine work.

I wasn't there when they finally fixed my truck, but they claim to have hooked up a diagnostic tool to it, forced it back into 2wd using the tool, then unplugging the battery for a while and letting everything boot back up. They said that when they did that, everything was synced back up.

Then again, they said a lot of stuff and very little of it turned out to be correct.

Fair enough. Im gonna hold on taking it in, especially since last time I took it in to them, they refused to work on it since the engine didnt match the VIN.

I found a similar issue to mine on in the 3rd gen section, where it turned out to be a vacuum leak on one of the vsv valves on top of the engine. Ill probably try that first since its cheap and easy, but thanks for the help
 
By all means, try anything and everything that you can before taking it into the dealership. I'm not being sarcastic. You read my thread, I don't put a lot of faith in my local dealership or Toyota Corporate after what I went through.

Post an update when you figure it out. I'm sure it's something small.

Actually think I know what the issue is. When I put the motor in I had to wrestle it quite a bit to get it mated to the tranny, and I bet I hit the oil pan on the sensor on top of the diff when fighting with it. Gonna check tomorrow and will update with what I find
 
Well couldnt find any issues with the wiring today. Dont know whats left, maybe fried the 4wd ecu. Not sure how to go about testing that though...
 
Do you have access to a Toyota capable scantool (not just Generic OBDII)? You might be able to snag any DTCs it's throwing to get a better idea.

I do not have access to one. Is there a way to get my hands on one besides going to the dealer? They refuse to go anywhere near my truck since it has a mismatched engine with the VIN, even though they did part of that swap....

Fixed my issue. Ended up unbolting the front diff so it could drop low enough to remove the actuator. When I did that, I found a wire had pull out of the plug going to the ADD. Soldered it back together, and light is gone, and 4wd works again.

Thought Id also include a link to a thread on the tacomaworld forums that might help people with similar issues that isnt due to a torn wire.
