Im a newbie here but I've been reading the forum since I got my 96' hilux surf 2.7L 4x4 last August! I'ts a Japanese Import and I got it for only 15,000 NZ!(usual price is 20,000 up!)Had 80,000+miles(128,000kms.)on the odometer.So It's a real good deal.This forum is a great!I learned alot of things and hoping to learn more!Keep up the good work guys! Welcome to the forum. Probably not too members have the 2.7, that was the base engine from 96 to 2000 in the US and not too many people bought the 4 banger. It has a reputation for being tough as nails. You are also the first member from New Zealand. Being a sailor, I have a Catalina 27' sailboat, I am sorry to hear about you losing the America's Cup to a land locked country. When I was in San Diego I saw the Cup in it's display case.

Thanks for the warm welcome!Sorry but I dont know anything about boats but I'd like to have one someday.Yup we lost the cup but the skipper who won the race (Russel Coutts) and some of the crew are Kiwis!We'll do better next time.I'm quite happy with the 2.7L since I dont do any towing and I do mostly city driving, and Im using 215/70R16 to compensate for the low HP, and is great for highway cruising!Cheers!(thanks!)

Welcome to the board! Glad to have someone from that far away join (I was in Sydney recently, so gained a new appreciation for how far you are from here )

The 2.7 should also be a bit better on the petrol, right?

Peter - I also saw the Americas Cup in san Diego. That was a long time ago!

thanks for the welcome and yes I'm doing 21-22mpg. on my rig!I'm really happy with the mileage because I use my surf everyday as my service car as well as going on long drives around the country.There's only a few 2.7L here, mostly are 3.0 diesels and some are 3.4 V6 same as yours there but with all the Japanese factory fancy options and the tire carrier at the back.

21-22 is good.

Some of the Asia-only options are really nice. I was in Singapore 2 weeks ago, and one if the guys has a brand new Toyota van (don't even remember the model) that he imported from Japan. The outside mirrors fold in when you turn off the engine!

Yup! They really thought of everything there.Some of the surfs here even has an automatic backing up mirror that opens up when you go on reverse and closes when you stop!But it seems the trend here now is the new LC prado, which you dont get there,maybe because its cheaper than the LC, seats 7 persons and looks like the lexus GX470 there.

Yeah, I saw lots of LC Prados in Sydney. Nice truck, actually.
