Grey Wire Mod <No Grey Wire WTF>

2000 4Runner SR5 V6 4WD, It does have a locking diff the buttons on my dash and I've used it before so I know it has it but theres no grey wire. Help please :awais:

Sometimes the wire is not actually grey. What you need to do is find wire #8.

pin 8 is that white w/ black stripe wire in the pic

If you still have problems, I may be able to help. This mod was done already when I purchased by 2000. I have no idea where to look, but if you tell me the general location, I can take a picture of what mine looks like, and describe it. It must be correct because it works perfectly and the previous owner was a Toyota certified tech.

Ok, hang on im gonna go take pics. I dunno if your comfortable with it or not but im at my office off of union/simms between 6th ave and alameda if you want to just meet me over here. otherwise ill post some pics in a minute

This is all on the driver side. Remove the 4 screws on the plastic sill and take that off

then pull the kick panel straight back towards you. Mine was already removed. The door sill covers the kick panel and holds it down

You'll see a little black box that if you look really close it says toyota 4 wheel drive on it

heres what the box looks like. Theres a white plug. what color are the wires that are taped into on yours? There should be 2

I can't see the back of that plug. Get a better pic. What's in between the Green/Yellow and White/Black wire?

sigh i like how everyone thinks the tacoma grey wire mod is the same for the 4runner its actually the blue wire with a red stripe wire

nvm notice it was in a pic of yours you need to ground the wire going to the plug so cut it past the tape
