Grille/Brush Guard help

Hey everyone, I recently posted the thread on new tires for my 4Runner. Thanks for all the help - I'm still debating between the REVOs and the BFGs (since the weather is still amazing here - I'm gonna wait another week before making a final decision).

Anyway, I wanted to get opinions/recommendations on a grille/brush guard for my 4Runner. Browsing the site, I saw someone post this manufacturer as a source for well-priced guards: http://www.huntertruckwholesale.com/

They have a 3rd Gen guard for $269, shipped. Seems almost too good to be true. If someone has this guard and can vouch for it, please let me know!

I would like this to be more than just cosmetic. It'd be nice if this actually provided engine protection in the event I hit something.

As with most things, you will find that a brush guard offering protection is pretty debatable, on this board at least. Some suggest that the brush guard could actually cause MORE damage, but bending and causing body damage to a part of the vehicle that otherwise would not get contact. In the end I don't think there is really any proof either way, but honestly if you want one that offers maximum protection then you need to spend the money for a nice one.
 
I have their bullbar and its not bad at all.
The service is 5 stars too, i bought it from them trough ebay.

yea be careful when you are riding off-road though, i hit a dip down and actually caused one of the mounting brackets to bend some so my brushguard sits closer to the right now then left.

i have a westin guard though because like you though under 300 was to good to be true.
 
I had a Hunter Bull Bar and had Hella 500's on it.

The Lights would vibrate while off road and became more of a distraction so I took the whole thing off. I am not looking for something cosmetic. I can't say yours would vibrate, mine was mounted perfect and tightened good and still vibrated though. Even on the road the vibration of going over bumps was distracting to others and me.

I also bent one side going up hill and almost made contact with my newly painted bumper. I straightned the bracket back out but decided that it was hindering my approach angle severely and could cause damage to parts that otherwise wouldn't have contacted.

When I had lights on my old front bumper they did not vibrate like they did on the Hunter Bull Bar. Here is a pic for you.

The Westin Side Steps are for sale if anyone wants them. Used for less than a year. The brackets lost a little paint though. Otherwise like new.
