grinding Front right axel

hey guys i have a 93 sr5. so one day after some off roading, i was going about 6 6 on the highway and all of a sudden i hit a small bump in the road, and i hear a high speed grinding noise coming from the front right side.i pulled off to the side of the road, moving slowly, i put it into 4 high and the noise went away, i put it back in 2 and it will be fine for a few minutes and then it will come back.

i let the truck sit for about 2weeks, and drove it to work. going to work there was no noise but on the way home i hit another a bump in the road and it started grinding again. but the same thing if i put it in 4 high it goes away. this time it was at a lower speed.

i know its not a wheel bearing cause i had put new bearings and races in about 3 months ago.

it kinda seems like the u-shaped fork that engages the 4wheel drive is not shifting over all the way, or like it is trying to shift into 4 by its self. if any one knows what my problem is please let me know thanks.

It could be a bad CV joint. With the truck in 4WD, put the front end up in the air and rotate each wheel by hand. See if you can hear/feel where the sound is coming from.
