Gulf Coast Trip

Just wanted to post some pics of my recent trip down to the Gulf Coast. It was a great trip and actually did some minor offroading. Mainly just some sand dunes and a few hills and minor mudding.

Geez, that looks hot. No trees and the Texas sun beating down on you? Ouch. At least you have the ocean. I'll take our north woods camping with forested spots and lakes and streams. Props to you for getting out though and getting muddy.

Notice the air conditioner on top of the camper. I am sure that helped a little. Still it does look VERY hot.
 
Ya it was kinda hot, in the low 90's but worse than that was the humidity! My Girlfriend and I arent used to humidity that bad. We are from North Texas where it isn't so bad. This was in Port Aransas/Corpus Christi. The humidity was horrible down there!!!
 
Cool, I've been there briefly nice scenery. I'm from Dallas but currently in San Marcos (Austin) but have family in that area... but I try to stay away from salt water!!! I suppose I would like the ocean more if I was raised around it but I'm a fresh water gal. Call me dirty I guess....

Thats cool Im from The Dallas Area as well. And I Agree the salt water is not for me! But it was nice to have a little trip down their with my girlfriend!
 
Tell me a little about those pop-up campers. Keep in mind that I know virtually nothing about them.

How many people do they sleep?

How much do they weigh?

How much do they cost (for an average job)?

Does the air conditioner on top cool the entire thing? It looks like the sides are just screen. Is there a way to seal it to keep the cool air in?

LOL, I'm such a camping noob. But I'd like to try it some day.
 
have you ever been tent camping before? I think ya should try that first just to get the REAL experience! haha.

My sister thinks camping should be a law for all people to go once a year just so they realize how much we take for granted with all our moderness. I half way agree with her until I have to walk a mile just to go pee or I'm swatting away kamikaze bugs. But still, I find it all worth it!

I too am interested in that pop up camper thing though. Fill us all in! I REALLY want to buy a tent for the 4Runner and camp out of that..so much fun.

I've been camping in a tent many times, starting when I was a kid with a tent in the back yard. I've hiked to the top of a decent sized mountain and slept in a tent at the summit. Unfortunately, I haven't slept in a tent for more than 10 years.
 
Your camera is set to Indoor White balance mode. Set it back to Auto WB to fix it. You can salvage those pics in photoshop though.
 
As far as the pop up goes I will give ya the answers to each question: The camper sleeps about 5 to 7 people it just depends on how big of one you get.. Im not exactly sure how much it weighs but I know I can move it myself so I would guess around 1,000lbs. Maybe more like 900lbs.. New they can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $18,000 It just depends on what you get on them... The air conditioner does cool the entire camper. The sides are just screens but the inside can be zipped up or down. Tent camping is probably still my favorite though!! Anyways I would start with a tent and work your way up to a pop up then gradually upgrade.I have a Jayco as well but it is a 24 foot full size Travel camper.. I love camping its so relaxing!!

What is a SUV tent?

...so obviously I haven't. :D But I do tent camp a few times a year. In fact, my wife and I are planning a trip to the Smokys at the end of July. My earliest camping memories are from there when I was 4 or 5 and I haven't been back since, so I am really looking forward to it.
