I also keep mine (legally of course) in my center console. I've thought about doing a similar thing....BUT with a left handed holster instead to mount it opposite of where you circled, next to my right leg. This would make for easier access and a less obvious reach if say someone is approaching your vehicle from the driver's side. Just a thought. Interested in seeing what you come up with. Post pics!

I thought about mounting mine in the pocket of the door but since I'm right handed I wanted it on the right side of me. I'm a big guy and mounting it on the driverside would put my leg in the way. I will post pics as work is completed. I've never worked with fiberglass before...looking forward to learning with this project.

I'll have to sit in the truck and see but I think the front passenger side would keep it out of my way and be really easy to grab. I just see me trying to pull it from under my seat and it getn hung up on my jeans or something. I may have the same problem if I mount it on the driverside hump opposite of the picture I posted. I'm leaning toward the passenger side hump as of now...may change my mind tomorrow.

I usually carry my 9mm under the seat, since it is full size and is mounted in a drop holster.
I do not have a dedicated truck gun yet for the 4Runner, but I am thinking about picking up another Judge for the job. I am left handed, therefor I would mount it near the seatbelt clip on the right side of the drivers seat, making it both reachable and protectable with my right arm from the passenger side of the vehicle. I believe the existing console on my truck will suffice for a mounting platform, as I plan to have a more horizontal mounting position.

Damn, I hate CA sometimes. We can't have Judges out here because our "shotguns" can't hold more than 3 shells. They are awesome guns especially for camping and exploring, but I settled on a S&W 329 PD in .44 mag flavor and I love it! I'm actually glad I got it over the Judge because it weighs less than 1/2 so it's really a perfect hiking gun in bear and mt. lion country.

i should add the one i posted above is spring loaded so when you open the latch it thrusts the gun into your hand, pretty sweet/bond style thing.

I keep a Beretta Jet-Fire in the center console most of the time, and usually have a .45 on my hip. Adding a rig like that seems like a good idea. I may play with this some.

After having been relieved of my plain sight mounted (behind limo tint) beretta 92fs. My recommendation is under the seat. If your car is broken into they toss the glove box and center console first. I don't know if they're going to look under the seat for spare change. Plus its always out of the way and noone ever sees it by mistake. my .02

Thats a consideration of mine, being too visible and theft. I did have my 4runner broken into a year ago and they emptied the center console and the glove box. (stole my GPS, which was under the seat, and a camera which was in the console) They rooted around pretty good in there in the 4runner overall. The only thing they didn't find was some dollar bills I had in the top part of the console (most people don't know about that top part under the lid)
For now, I only carry the pistol occasionally and I just stick it in between the center console and the seat; and I take it with me when I get out of the car really only for fear of theft.
EDIT: My dad had his pistol stolen out of his truck, and it was under the seat. IMO, its best not to leave ANY valuables in your car, thieves know where to look. And really, under the seat is not a very clever place to hide things.
