I want the original that started it all with a well-earned reputation...Glocks...if i were to go down that route with Glock-like trigger and design.

Now, not sure about your experience, but for my neophytic self, i prefer DA/SA or DA trigger simply because i don't want accidental discharge due to my adrenaline. Personally, with a DA/SA or DA trigger, you can skip external safety...which i am against for conceal carry (IMO).

Either is an excellent choice. Go with whichever you feel fits your hand better, as their geometry differs a bit.

Also, don't discount a 9mm. With Hydroshocks, performance is great, and practice is substantially more enjoyable and quite a bit less expensive.
 
If you get the chance check out the HK P2000SK. It's a great sub-compact and, to me, feels better in the hand than the glocks. I like the ergonomics of this weapon. Just check it out if you can. I think there are a few comparisons of the HK and the glock 27 on youtube. As everyone else has stated you need to figure out what feels best for you.

I think the Glock vs SA can be debated til the end of time, similar to the v6 or v8 4Runner debate!! Just personal preference...

I am surprised that so far no one has mentioned the 'carry a weapon that you are actually going to carry ALL THE TIME' arguement....

I would rather have 6+1 of hi quality 380 in my pocket that 16+1 of ANYTHING in my nightstand at home.

A lot of new carriers underestimate how difficult it can be to carry in all situations.... I have a lot of 'toys' in the safe for fun, but I ALWAYS have my 380 b/c it is so easy to carry...

Those double stacks can get heavy, and hard to conceal, then they slowly start to get left at home more and more often....

Well, there has to be one 1911 fan here...

I carry a Les Baer Stinger 4.25" barrel on an officers frame most of the time.

Wow. Who knew truck folks were gun folks too. I truly have joined the right forum!

Not an 'enthusiast' but avid shooter of all varieties of weapons, I do like the Glock for it's simplicity. She's won me many a medals competitively.
 
Another vote for the XDM...Ive been eye ballin this gun for awhile but the .45 due to less recoil then the .40...they make a 3 3/4 '' for better concealment and have the nice convienent palm and trigger safety feature not to mention feels good in the hand...Ive seen some reviews of the XDM on tv and they speak very highly of it...My husband asked what I wanted for our anniversary and I asked for that hand gun...I have a s&m sw9c which I had to take to cabelas gun library to find more out about it cause it looked so much like a glock...come to find out it was the closest s&m came to replicating it and they don't make it anymore...its nice but a bit bulky and hard to conceal...you should definitely shoot both and different calibers to see which one fits you best...just my 2 pennies

Your eigther Glock or your not. I'm not. Ive shot a few and never cared for the sights, looks, disassembly ect. I own two XD's..a Tactical 45 and newly bought Sub Compact 9mm. Do what everyone else suggests and finger **** / shoot both.

Heres my sub comp..I would have bought the 3.8 M but it's not available in Cali yet.

Don't forget to let us know what you with.

This target is 150 rounds at 10yrds between the Glock 17, H&K P30, and the Barretta 92fs. The H&K had really nice sights, and fit the hand well, but the trigger was long. The Glock had a nice trigger, but I don't like the sights. And then the Barretta was a nice medium and I also like the weight, it's a much heavier gun.

I will admit, a 1911 is badass, but the ammo is so expensive. Unless you are into reloading, I think 9mm is that way to go because the ammo is MUCH cheaper. 9mm you can hold more rounds, and it'll still stop somebody. One other thing is that the 1911 has a nice manageable recoil. The worst recoil has got to be the .40 though.

Of course this is all personal opinion. This is just so you know what to look for when you are narrowing your search down.

I think that 1911 are awesome...but the trigger is just too sensitive...and jury may not like a hair trigger in court....

In addition with 1911, you have to deal with external safety...and that requires more dexterity in pulling the gun out and flipping the safety OFF. For ME, i am not sure that i am that mentally competent during a confrontation to remember all the steps, much less keep my finger off the trigger! :D
 
I'm waiting on my purchase permit but I think I'm going with the 27. Couple reasons; the parts availability, aftermarket accessories and support is by far the best. I was a little concerned about the 4th gen problems but the 27 seems to not have these issues. Another BIG factor is it being smaller and lighter.

I favor a big heavy 1911 for all around good shooting, but for carrying I go with a glock 22 in .40 cal. Simple operation to fire. In any crisis situation, less is more! The less safety switches or buttons, the faster you can fire and in a crisis, you just need to shoot! Mine came with night sights, it is a used police pistol.
Whatever you choose, make sure to practice a lot with it. It is amazing how long it can take to draw your weapon or reload, under stress. Practice makes perfect. I don't know your shooting experience, but I try to shoot 2x per week.
I like the simplicity of the Glock. Second only to a revolver.

XD's are getting there in terms of parts and aftermarket toys. pistolgear.com has all sorts of good stuff. Thats where I got my spring kit for my trigger job, & heavy weight guide rod from..

I don't have (or need) a CCW, but if I did, I'd go with the S&W M&P 9mm or the Springfield XD 9mm. I like both of them, but I'm a little more partial to the M&P. I just like the idea of a 9 for a concealed carry. Still strong enough to put someone down, but they're generally smaller, hold more ammo, have less kick and cheaper to shoot than a .45.

That said, I love my 1911 too. It's just as reliable (if not more) than any auto handgun out there and I like the stopping power of a .45. But the only way I could see carrying mine (it's a full size barrel) would be to get one of those upside-down holsters that go in the small of your back. or a shoulder holster with a sport coat or something. A typical side holster would be hard to hide a 1911 IMO. Those compact 1911s of ALBPM's are pretty darn nice. I would have to consider those too just because I am a 1911 guy at heart.

Beautiful collection ALBPM! I especially like that customized Govt. Model. I had a Springer GI .45 that I converted into a MEUSOC M-45 over time. I kick myself because I let my neighbor convince me to sell it to him after I finished it. I still get to shoot it now and then when I go to the range with him, but I felt like I did a really good job on that gun and I really regret selling it now. Mainly because if I want another one, I'll have to build it all over again.
 
Try CCWing a 1911 on your hip for a month. You may find you either need to pay up for Chiropractor visits or a lighter gun :uzi:
