gun racks/storage

Let's see/hear about your set ups for long guns and handguns.

I am thinking about rigging some sort of scabbord that can hang behind the passenger seat for a pump shotgun. Ideally it will make the gun quickly accessible but won't interfere with reclining the seats like many of the seat-back gun racks I've seen. We don't have laws in Canada that specifiy the gun has to be visible or concealed in a vehicle, anything goes. It does however have to be out-of-sight when the truck is parked.

I've seen the ceiling racks, but I don't think there is enough head room for those in the 4Runner, and would involve drilling.

Does anyone use a small safe bolted down somewhere for storeing handguns you don't want stolen when you have to leave them in the parked truck?

I've had an idea using a military style polymer case that would fit the spare tire well and be operated by the little winch with an electric motor and secret button. But I won't be making it until I install the CBI rear bumper, so a ways off...

For my hunting rifle I use a scaboard behind the drivers seat. Connect to head rest and lower inside corner of seat. Does not interfere with someone setting in back seat and makes rifle very accessable when you open the back door.

I use one of these In Car Gun Lockers

Just got my 4runner so I am still figuring out a good place. Under the driver seat attached to the seat frame works, but I have to raise the seat all the way up to fit it under from the front.

I did just find a pretty decent spot tonight though. With the double decker cargo platform raised it creates a void behind the rear seat that can't be seen with the seat back. There is a tie down hook to attach it too so it works pretty well. Not as easy to get to though

**edit**

That void behind the rear seat and cargo platform would be a great place for a rifle/shotgun

I am planning on removing the double-decker when going hunting and fabricating a box to go into its place. This will allow for a long gun to fit on a slight angle, while still being bolted to the cargo area floor. Better yet would be to find a gun safe already built to those dimensions, which can be hidden under the double-decker.

I keep mine in My pocket or in the console.
Always CCW compliant.
