Im going to be heading to the Shenandoah Valley next month to visit family and wanted to see if anyone here has any recommendations for campgrounds and OHV trails in the GWNF or along skyline drive. I will be looking to stay within a reasonable distance of Luray or New Market area.

Any campgrounds near the trails? How Green are the trails? any experienced GWNF people out there? Thanks for any input!

GWNF is just dirt forest roads, they're not really "rated", and are typically passable to most any vehicle. I'm more familiar to the Harrisonburg area, and most of the legal "harder" trails have been closed or maintained.

If you find any (legitimate trails)** out there please let me know, I'll be heading out there in October for some fall backpacking.

I can recommend camping in the Mathews Arm area of the park, It is just North of the Thornton Gap entrance, very close to Luray.

Try the trail that leads up too Meadow Knob, or Flagpole, not to bad but as you drop down on the other side there are a few good trails that branch off
