GX460 Motor in our 5th Gen?

Wouldn't it be nice to have the GX460 motor in our 5th gen. I had to drop off my Lexus IS350 for service today and they gave me a 2015 GX460 loaner vehicle. I really like the performance on this truck. Its much more refined and the torque is impressive. As for the exterior design 4runner take this one hands down. It would have been nice if Toyota gave us the V8 option for the 5th gen that is all.

I have been saying this since the 5th gen came out.
 
How does the GX460 ride smoother and softer than a 4runner? I mean they're both body on frame. I have a trail edition with KDSS so I can't speak for the Limited with XREAS.

I did have X-reas in my 2005 Sport Edition and have to say I loved it. Actually better than the KDSS that I currently have. However, I am the one that doesn't really take it off roading much. I got the KDSS for a better on road drive. But I do miss my X-reas....would of gotten the Limited if it didn't look like it had braces across the front end of it. The X-reas was a much cushier ride and more comfortable in my opinion..

I do not know about the xreas on your old 4th gen but my 2014 Limited with xreas rides very stiff. Almost to rough for me.
 
You can buy a brand new GX460 for $46k, which isn't far off from what Toyota is getting for a TRD Pro. I don't need all of the fluff they put in the Lexus, but the motor alone makes it worth considering the Lex over the Toyota. That said, both vehicles have Toyota's hideous front end designs.

I just traded my GX460 in for the TE and the ride of the GX was the best SUV I have owned which included BMWx5 d, Audi Q7d, Acura MDX and Mer GL320d. The tires and shocks on the GX are tuned for street use to perfection. I traded it in because the rear hatch door drove me crazy and the integrated NAV/ HVAC controls for the fan was a pain to use on a daily basis. That was my only two complaints of the GX. Braking, cornering and nose dive was perfect the best of all the SUVs I have ever owned. Off road it was pretty good but I never went past fire roads. If I could get the GX ride on the TE it would be a perfect car. Oh yeah the V8 wasn't special but it had good torque and passing power. The Side opening rear door also blocked any use of a hitch rack with bicycles mounted.
 
15mpg. That's why I didn't buy a GX460 when I bought my 4runner. Would the 4.6 in a 1,000lb lighter vehicle do better? Probably. Not sure though. I hate to say it, but a GM 5.3 would probably be as good or mpg and a lot better power than either the 4.6 or the 4.0 Toyota engines.

That LS motor would be encased in a pile of s*** unfortunately.
 
V8 in 4Runner

A friend of mine has a GX460, coming from a 3rd or 4th gen 4Runner with lift and locking diff's. He worked very hard to build an anti-sway bar disconnect for the front axle on the GX460.

That said, I'd love to have a V8 in the T4R TE. But I'm looking for better gas mileage, not less than what I have now. And I want to run regular gas, not Premium at 20 cents more per gallon. The V8 in my 1995 Jeep GC takes premium.

The T4R drive train combo is just about right.
