GX470 Brake upgrade question

I have purchased GX470/T4R sport Brembo Rotors and pads (I understand the pads are the same as the smaller rotors pads) and I am now looking for a caliper choice that you have had good experiences with. It will need to be the 13WH variety but after reading for hours and hours, I cannot find a caliper that everyone agrees is good. I would prefer calipers that are powder coated or at least painted to protect from corrosion.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not use 5th gen calipers? The sport rotors and pads will work and you won't have to worry about piston seizing

Get in touch with Ceika custom brakes and see if there is something that will directly mock up to GX470 rotors. They sell full custom kits that come with powder coated calipers with the options of full floating pistons and stainless steel pistons as well.. they're pricey though

The 5th gen calipers will have the same issue with time... as the piston chambers are still uncoated, which will rust. Come back to this thread in about 6 years and comment on the accuracy of what I just said.

I'm specifically looking for the calipers I mentioned as I've already purchased the rotors.

I would be concerned about the piston chambers being coated with anything as that could introduce variance and looseness over time. But I hear you, we've seen some 5th gens getting seized calipers already, what's worse is when they throw "Les Schwab Specials" or "Autozone Specials" on there and then they seize faster.

I heard the Centric ones are pretty good, those are what I think I will go with when I get the 5th gen calipers for my 4Runner later down the line.

The GX470 calipers are just 4th Gen Sport Edition brakes, so whatever works there.

This has me wondering if hitting the pistons with Wd40 or other penetrant/lube would prevent the seize up.

I think that changing the brake fluid (as it is hydroscopic) more often would help reduce the internal corrosion. Changing your brake pads a little earlier may also help reduce the likelihood of a seized caliper as the pistons will not be extended out and exposed to the elements if they have a thicker pad in front of them. As the pads wear, more of the pistons will be exposed and will remain exposed until such time as the pads are replaced. Plenty of opportunity for moisture and other contaminents to get into the pistons.
