The 4Runner has blue tooth voice activated navigation, VSC, airbags, antilock brakes, hill start assist, down hill assist, VVTI controlled engine, electrochromatic rearview mirror, yet this technoligical wonder has old fashioned head lights. The limited at over 40K, this makes no sence.
It is almost like having a atomic time wrist watch you have to wind by hand.

The only Jap. car manufacturer I know that puts HIDs on their trucks is Nissan, and that's only on their high-end Infinity QX56 (not even on the Armada). The Lexus RX and Infinity FX do not count because their front ends are relatively lower than ours. I think it's a safety reason (as mentioned on other forums). Even with projectors, you are still blinding lower cars. With my projectors, I drove behind my friend's 2003 Camry on a trip to Michigan at night. He told me that I didn't blind him in his rear view mirror, but I did blind him in his side view mirrors. This is only the case when I'm less than 2 car lengths behind him. When I'm driving my 94 Corolla, even the HIDs on BMW and MB sedans blind me.

I would get HID's in a heartbeat if they were offered on the 4Runner. They definitely light up the road better than the standard halogen bulbs. On the other hand, the 4Runner has the best halogen lights out of all the vehicles I have driven. They light up the road rather well (not as good as HID's) for halogen lights.
What can the people who spend $70k on an LX470 say? They don't get HID's either.

I will be purchasing a 07 Limited 4Runner. Loaded, with all options and this vehicle will have old fashioned head lights and sticker for at least $44,000 I dont feel too good about that. I like the 4Runner, I just feel foolish that I am purchasing a vehicle with such old fashioned lighting technology.

Look at the many other options that Toyota/Leuxs offers on their SUV's that other companies do not offer. Have you test driven a 2006 4Runner with the new projector lamps yet? They supposedly give off a lot more light than the standard halogen headlights.

I have test driven the 06, love it that why I am getting one just the sec I can order the 07 model, want to pay cash thats why im waiting. Drove a BMW with hid lights and compared to the projector halogens it is like a candle in a lantern. Huge difference, not a little it is like night and day!

The only thing that sold me on the M3 back then was the power and torque it had . I mean ever time when the rpm shot up to red line it felt like I had a turbo under the hood! and the way that baby handle and corner like it was on rail just make you feel in luv with it right then!!! best stock ride ever straight out of the box! The 4runner headlight housing is very good stock. It was one of the main things I noticed when I got it and I'm coming from a '98 M3 with euro headlight housings. E36 US headlights are incredibly bad which is why I switched.
Why don't you just get the 4runner and live with it a bit before you start complaining about things. Or better yet, get a QX56 with HIDs.

From my point of view, it sounds like you're the typical soccer mom (dad) type that buys a SUV because you think its big and safe. Too bad the colors are drab and not to your liking and want to paint a brand new vehicle to a more fabulous color to match your personality. And for $2600.
What really appalled me was the fact that you won't let your wife drive your Lexus for fear of getting it a little dirty. So you value an inanimate object more than a person you exchanged vows with? Nice.

I agree. Why start trolling around a message board with nothing to offer except poll questions and knocking everything the 4Runner has and everything Toyota does? I would like to start a poll of who wants you to stop making silly posts and take a collection for you so that you can buy an Explorer or Pathfinder now and annoy their board members. Otherwise, post in December when you drive your "fully loaded 07 Limited" off the lot.

If you spend time reading the current threads on the board, you'll find this forum to be full of very smart people that are very knowledgeable, not only about the 4runner, but vehicles in general.
And repainting a brand new vehicle, one of the dumbest things I've heard. I know people that have done it, but you lose so much resale value. But if its what makes you happy, go on and do it.
Appreciating new technology? What does owning a 4runner have to do with appreciating new technology? I'm sure we all do. A lot of technology is in the 4runner. Sure it doesn't have HIDs, but it does have a lot of technology in its traction control systems and the like. There is a lot of new technology in the 4runner. I do find it kindof sad that its lack of HIDs are preventing you from seeing that.
Oh, and if you read the "What do you do?" thread (or something similar to that title), you'll find that a lot of members are engineers. Not only does it require being smart, not only is engineering the toughest major in college, but it is also a profession that is all about new technology.
