H11 bulb the same as an H16?

People running H11's in their fogs, are you concerned with the extra wattage and higher temps? I temporarily installed an H11 in my fog and checked the temperatures with a temp gun. The H11's were running several HUNDRED degrees hotter than the H16 bulbs. The H11's were reading around 450-500* F where the H16 is around 200-250* F. I guess this can be expected by more than doubling the wattage. My concern is if the housing and wiring are meant to handle those kind of tips. I didn't want to risk melting the housing or wiring so I removed them and reinstalled the H11's.

I guess it depends on whether the wiring is different from 10-13 to 14-15 as the earlier years had h11's for fogs. Those led's seem worthwile to me given the big increase over the h16 with no wire concerns. Maybe someone that did a halogen h11 swap can comment as well.

Yes. The H11 bulb is not recommended for the overheating / melting issue. I was all jazzed to throw H11 HID's in there, and went with an LED H16 instead.

What brand H11's did you use?

I'm sure with a small tab modification they will fit without issue. Honestly I was just going into it thinking they were a direct swap and didn't dig into modifying the tabs. Similar to cutting the tab on the h9 to fit the h11 housing.

I tried for a good amount of time and could not get them in. The tab of the factory H11 was just off enough that i couldn't get it in. I didn't want to force it to much for risk of breaking either the bulb or housing.

No problem, but please don't put words in my mouth. I didn't state that there was, just that I was concerned with it. Good to hear yours have been working out. If anything I'll probably change them out with the Morimoto LED housings at a later date.

Ditto, running this as well. Except I put H9's in the fogs as well......Works great.
On the 2011 the fogs are originally the H11's, So I made the same H11 to H9 mod for my fogs as well.....Been running the H9's well over 6 months with no issues

A Quick search of the Napa Auto parts site shows the same bulbs for the 2011 models as well as the 2014 models.

Go to the dealership and tell them you need a fog light bulb and low and behold, it will look just like your original.

The OEM bulb might be marked H16, but if you roll up to the auto parts store and tell them what your driving....you won't get an H16 bulb. It will be an H11 in all the books.


So if you are willing to do the mods......(at your own risk)

H11 bulbs can be fitted with H9 in all locations.
9005 bulbs can be fitted with 9011 in all locations.

Fog lights on the 2011 models are H11, Can't seem to find the listing for the fogs on the NAPA site. (Autozone shows an H16, but it sure looks like an H11 to me)
Does not change the fact that brighter H9's and 9011's are easily modifiable to fit the sockets, no matter where they might be located (High Beam, Low Beam, Fog or DayTime running)

I can state for a fact that on my 2011, the hotter/brighter/higher watt bulbs run just fine and have not caused any issues except better vision at night.
I Can't speak for anyone else's T4R, but I would bet the 2014-15 models will handle the hotter/brighter/higher watt bulbs just fine.

I'm also interested in theunderlord's answers to these questions. I do not want to do a full replacement of the fog light at $150 or more. Just a bulb replacement for better quality and results than the OEM bulbs.

Just to clarify, these are plug-and-play, correct? No modification at all of the plug or housing?

Yes, full plug and play, no modifications necessary, just twist them in place.

They're bright! I'd say the color is a tad more towards the 4300K side than 6K.

For 25 bucks, they look so much better than the silly OEM halogens.
