H11 LED in projector housing

There are no LED alternatives that provide anywhere near useful lighting on the road. They will look brighter straight on but will only throw out foreground light and provide no useful light down the road.
The optics of the 3 different types of light sources (Halogen, HID or LED) are all so different. While some argue HID and halogen can be used interchangeably, LED definitely cannot be.
Save your money and shy away from LED applications.
 
I've gone through the HID threads and some recommend swapping projectors for true HID projector lenses but that doesn't solve the dust cap issue. If you drill a hole to run the wiring, the grommet will not seal.

Really sucks that toyota can invest in fancy lighting in its crappy corollas and camrys but not for the 4Runner or even new 2016 Tacoma. Bullshit.
 
I was going to suggest the HID projector retrofit. I have done this on other vehicles before. There are plenty of ways to seal off any openings.
But most people are not willing to crack open their headlights to do the surgery.

HID is still the best lighting technology out there. Even the vehicles that have LED lighting now still do not compare to a properly tuned HID projector.

These are in the Fog light , THEY ARE LED
H11 Philips LED bulb | H16 Philips LED bulb | H8 Philips LED Fog bulb

These are in the Low Beam , THEY ARE LED
H11 LED Headlight Kit | H11 LED Upgrade

My dust caps are virgins and function as the factory engineers intended them to .

These are going in the Hi Beams next

I took a quick one when I was doing the install , its not the best . I'll post one up when I get a chance to shoot one down the Highway .Its a bazillion times better than the factory bulbs .

The metallic ribbon works as a heat sink. No concerns about overheating in the housing or the metal ribbon melting anything rubber?

I drive in the dark both in the morning and evening for about an hour each time so my concern would be heat dissipation with the dust cap fully intact.

edit: how'd you fit the LED driver inside the housing as well? That had to be a tight fit.

Wife has been driving it back and forth to work all week , about 1 hour each way , and its warm on the dust cover , not hot .
I slid the LED Driver down in the headlight just under where the bulb goes in for the low beam position . It took a little time to get the heat dissipating hoops spread out in a nice floral pattern before I put the dust cover back on . On the drivers side I had to remove the battery tie down to get enough room to get my paws in there . Patience is the key .

 
LED Low Beam only .

Notice all the baby bloodsuckers smashed all over the windshield . 70F last Friday night in northern Maine . Never seen that in November before .

There's no need to drill or cut anything. My TRS kit was pnp did it in 30 minutes during my lunch break at work. There's no moisture it's perfectly sealed. The cut-off is identical to the halogens but it's way brighter, no glare. IMHO for now hid's are better then LEDs for your application. If you go all in retrofitting is the way to go for the best results.

You wouldn't happen to have any pics would you?
 
I had true hid's on my 4th gen but i got bright flashed all the time even when i aimed them down. Id love a better application than halogens. Maybe this will be next after lift and tires on my 5th gen.
