Had a little accident - need to replace rear bumper

Hey gang,

Was backing out of the garage today in my gold 2004 Limited, and didn't see the car behind me.

So I have a pretty good sized ding in the rear bumper. So a few questions...can I order this part online? What exactly is it called? I tried searching for "bumper" but that only seems to apply to the front. Also, is something like this fairly easy to replace?

Any tricks, hints, etc, on how to install or where to order from would be much appreciated.

Lucky for you that bumper is a 3 piece and looks like the damage is isolated to the left hand part. Take a look at partznet and you should be able to find it there. I'm not sure if it comes prepainted though.

EDIT: Found this on partznet:

Number 11 is listed as "Limited Left" for the left hand side for about $120...

hey, thank you so much. So $120 plus a paint job. We have places around here called Carsmetics. I wonder if they will paint a part I bring in. Have to give them a call.

Also notice the one-piece black plastic part on top of the bumper that's not painted. That's called a "bumper pad", and that's glued on. I don't know if you can pull it off the affected piece of the bumper and then get it to stick to the new piece. You may have to replace the bumper pad as well to make it stick to all three pieces. Has anyone done this and knows for sure if that's necessary?

A couple of things.

First, when you have the piece painted, make sure the paint shop prepares the plastic piece properly to ensure good adhesion of the paint. This usually involves a couple of steps depending on how the piece comes from the factory.

Secondly, colormatching is critical because only one piece is being painted and mated against the rear quarter panel. Typically, automotive paints are not a perfect panel match, and from my experience gold can be a real bugga. Have the paint shop do what is called a test panel to see how well the paint will match. (you dont want the bumper cover looking like those of a late '90s Camry)
