Half shaft and rotor replacement

Well I knew I was going to have ta replace the front brake pads sooner or later. Unfortunately a loud grinding sound meant sooner than later. So while Im in there I decided to replace the halfshafts and rotors too (the grinding did enough damage to warrant that. Ok to the point...replacing either appears to require disassembling at least part of the hub. Ill know more once I get the hub cover off which is where I am stuck. It appears to be attached to the hub by 6 studs coming out of the hub. I have removed the 6 nuts that appear to hold it on. THere are also two opposing threaded holes on the surface of the cover. Im assuming these are meant to attach a puller and pull the cover off the studs. I attached puller and began threading the drive in but got what I thought was too much resistance with no sign of the cover starting to pull off. Sooo since Im pretty much flying blind here, I have a haynes manual but for all intents and purposes thats the same as flying blind, I decided to post here befoer I destroy anything. Is there anything else I need to remove to get the hub cover off?
Also Im hoping once that is done all I have to do is remove a snap ring that will allow me to slide the half shaft out and pull the hub off. Appears the rotor is bolted to the hub from the inside. Not looking forward to that either as Im sure it will be a hassle.
