Half way through my timing chain replacement

and my guides were toast on the 220K motor. I've got what seems to be most of the broken pieces but some are missing for sure. Do I need to drop the oil pan or do you think I'll be okay? I'm wondering if I can put a vacuum with a little hose on it down the little gap between the oil pan and the block where the cover used to be.

You probably could just leave them in your oil pan, but for the short amount of time it takes to pull the pan off I would just take it off. Then you ensure you got all the pieces, and it will seal better where the timing cover and block touch mate with the oil pan.

Dropped and glad I did. Bunch of pieces down there.
