The issue won't be voltage, it will be the amperage. If you overload it, you'll blow the fuse, so no damage done.
Personally, I find the handheld vacuums to be so weak that I got rid of them all and use the big one from the house or the Shop-Vac to clean the truck. Picks up everything and the noise isn't to bad for a few minutes.
