Hands-Free/Bluetooth Rarely Works (2012)

Anyone have the issue where your hands-free calling / bluetooth doesn't turn on? Mine will only come on 10% of the time. I have the non-nav audio setup. When I hit the push to talk button, the audio assistant should come on but it rarely happens. A full engine shut down and restart is all that will fix the problem (and even then generally doesn't)

This then doesn't allow me to use bluetooth on my phone.

Been happening for about 3 years now and I've finally lost all patience. Not sure if it's a common problem or not with the older 5th gens.

I don't use mine much but I seem to recall they recommended you remove your device from the system, restart the system, then add your device back again.

I use mine all the time, works 99% of the time for incoming calls.

It doesn't work worth a sh!t for outgoing functions fo any kind. Less than 1% success on outgoing.

I changed out my radio, but when I had the stock unit (with nav) it would have connection issues.

It's not so much the connection between my phone and the bluetooth (I should have made this more clear). The issue is the system turning on. When I press the push to talk button on the steering wheel, generally nothing happens. The odd time it will come to life but that is very rare. When it does come on, my phone always connects.

It could be the clockwork spring in the steering column is getting iffy. The phone functions run through that. The one in my wife's 05 Camry gave up several years ago so none of her buttons work anymore. Thankfully the cruise control seems to use a different circuit.

I had some intermittent connection issues after I went from iphone 6s to 7whatever it was. Synced via backup, but music wouldn't start automatically, and handsfree wasn't the default when driving. My fix was remove all devices from the system and then do a re-pairing. If you haven't tried that yet, give it a shot.

Works fine most of the time on my 2012 sr5 with iOS 10 and 11.

My '10 hooks up flawlessly with my iPhones (had a 6 and now an X). I never used the steering wheel button to initiate a call though as I never liked the primitive Toyota interface and all the beeps, needless talking, etc. With the iPhone 6, I would just push the home button on the phone, Siri comes on over the handsfree system, and I would then tell Siri who I wanted to call. With the X, I just do the "Hey Siri" thing, and it still activates over the handsfree system, allowing me to say who to call, read last text, etc. I do use the steering wheel button to end calls though.

yea all this wireless integration shit sucks.. i'd rather have carplay and just plug my shit up and have it display on screen
