Hanging in 4th....

Does anyone notice their 4R loves to run in 4th and not make the upshift to 5th? I drive a lot of rural roads, 35-50mph, and I notice that it will 'hang' in 4th for a while before, if at all, going into 5th. I know the system will jump back a gear when going downhill to aid in braking, but all of this is on flat roads. I have actually noticed it a lot worse recently and wondering if that has to do with my running the A/C near full and drawing 'power' from the engine?

When I let off the gas at 45 in 4th there is a noticable 'grab' as the 4R slow, I would rather just coast. It seems to behave the same in Normal mode and Sport mode as well.

I have a low VIN, wondering if the TSB fix will address this as well, guess I will find out in 200miles when it goes in for the 1st oil change.

I have noticed a little bit of this. Luckily with the roads around me it seems I drive 35, 40, or 60+ so I'm not in that in between area too much.

You mention the same in "normal and sport mode". You are referring to the modes changed by the button on the gauge cluster correct? I don't recall ever seeing a sport mode on mine. Mine cycles: odometer, trip A, trip B, thing with the average mpg displayed, and then ECO. Or maybe i'm just misinterpreting one of these that really is sport mode?

Sport mode - On your shifter if you are in D slide it to the left, now you are in 'Sport' mode, able to manually change gears to your liking, 1st through 5th. If you rev to high the system will auto shift for you to prevent damage, and if you try to drop a gear and the system knows it will over rev it beeps at you and will not shift. It is not a true stick, but just a little combo between the two.

Ha, no problem. As I said in my other post that TSB fix that was performed today seemed to have fixed this problem as well. Even my wife noticed it tonight while riding around, so much better, much happier!

I use Sport Mode all the time for mountain driving, and other twisty roads. Basically, any time you want to keep the engine in the power band instead of upshifting. As for wear and tear, the way I use it, I imagine there is less than using the throttle to kick down a gear or 2.
