Hard braking, lifted / big tires

Well I had the pleasure of having to slam on my brakes for the first time since I lifted my truck and put on meaty (duratracks) tires. Not the same as stock that’s for damn sure. The tires skid instantly and abs kicks on hard. Truck definitely takes a nose dive and scared the sh*t out of me. I locked up brakes a few times when truck was stock and it felt as one would expect from hard braking but this is totally definitely and I was only going 40mph!! God knows what would happen at 60 or 70mph. I been thinking about shrockworks front bumper too. Adding 150lbs to front end I can’t imagine what would be like!! Any of you guys have this happen?

I have a similar setup as you and I "check" my truck every now and then to see that she will operate ok- like doing a HARD stop from high speeds- You HAVE to in NY due to the crazy roads esp going into NYC!. I don't wanna find out I can't stop when I need to. Yeah it gets my blood pumpin but to my memory don't really skid; THOU I did a FULL recent brake job new (front&rear) EBC discs EBC pads n Napa Premium calipers only in front (I had frrozen calps) and brake fluid flush. I'm at 85grand.

DO you maybe need to do a brake job? or maybe just a flush? A flush alone can help a bit to brake better but it's NOT a fix all.

Yeah maybe its time to check out brakes cause this was not cool. I mean only good thing i guess is it has me driving on the defensive side which is always good but god forbid.... How much you into brakes (minus calipers)?

I recall seeing where one member was reporting similar issues and it was resolved by resetting the zero point calibration. Here's instructions on how to do the calibration, I'd try that first.

Yeah maybe its time to check out brakes cause this was not cool. I mean only good thing i guess is it has me driving on the defensive side which is always good but god forbid.... How much you into brakes (minus calipers)?

Can't remember but what I did was extra pesos, a couple of donkeys worth! The other parts were cheaper- a good amount cheaper BUT, BUT I wanted to have really good brakes OEM or Better. I first did OEM pads n cut rotors at 30k (after my 4R took its sweet time (SCARRY) stopping) so at 65k I figured I had the extra cash and since I have kids, my wife uses my truck for business meetings in bad weather, do lotso road trips, camping, NJ, ME, Fl blah blah I spent the extra coinage. After my first experience at 30k with OEM brakes feeling sluggish I figured I'd upgrade everything and change front Calipers I suspected of being frozen.

EBC - no matter where you go online/brick n mortar store will cost you but
it was way worth it for me.

Thanks for the link info but that doesn’t seem to be my problem so to speak. No lights are coming on or came on when incident happened. Just a scary a** lock up / abs / hold on and pray I stop moment. I’m thinking it’s money well spent to upgrade brakes.... guess there goes the shrockworks fund

Yeah for sure if it could help and offer a solution I’m all for it. I skimmed over that thread and seemed it was more directed to runners that have light coming on at start up or shortly after vehicle in motion but maybe I miss understood.

Yes, that thread is in relation to the dash light. I found the thread, the prayer was having issues with the vsc system being too aggressive, not brakes loving up as in your case.

I will say I've had my Duratracs for several months now and while it does take longer to brake, I haven't noticed the problems you mention. I'm running Napa Ultra Premium pads and rotors.

yeah my gut says its time. I’m at like 76k. Bought the truck with 30 - 35ish and brakes were serviced as a certified pre owned but don’t know if that means new or just enough to pass certification.
