Hard Wiring a Radar Detector, GPS, and other electronics...

So I just bought my 2005 4Runner and I am trying to hardwire my radar detector, GPS, and some other electronics (phone charger, Ipod charger, etc.). For the GPS and other accessories, I am trying to hook up a 3-terminal 12V adapter which I need to stay on while the car is turned off. I was thinking of tapping into the wires of the existing 12V that is near the shift nob. For the radar detector, I need to hook it up so it will turn off when the car turns off.

I was going to use fuse taps and hook these electronics through the fuse box, however, for some reason the fuse taps that I have will not allow the fuses (on the interior fuse box) to be pushed back into the fuse box while the fuse taps are attached to that fuse.

My first question is: does anyone have, or know where I can obtain, a diagram for both the interior and exterior fuse boxes? Do you have any suggestions on which particular fuse slots I should use? I need figure out which fuses are for what component of the car)

Second question: Does anyone have an easier/better idea of how to do this?

Bump for a similar project. Like the above reader asked. What's the best way to tap in to the fuse box or other location for power?

I just ordered a small garmin and i'm going to use a procomp mount near the emergency flasher button on my 4th gen. I want an aux power outlet (cigarette lighter socket) under the glove box.

buy one of these from autozone

i have two of these hooked up in my car. the first one is for my garmin and its hooked into CIG(15A) fuse which turns off when i turn the car off and the second is for a full time 12v socket which is hooked into the secu/horn(10A) fuse which is on whether the car is on or not

Check out the thread in my signature for some links to how I added a second power outlet and how to remove a relay to get constant power on the existing outlet if you want. Maybe you can adapt some of these ideas.
