Hardwire Nav Override

I "think" I remember seeing a post on one of the sites (maybe this one) which featured a switch, wiring (and maybe even a timer) modification which allowed Nav override functionality.

Does someone remember this? A link or push in the right direction would be awesome.

I've searched around, but I'm either not at the right site or using the wrong search parameters.

ps- I thought about doing the software DL-DVD re-burn method to get to the override. But, I don't like the pushing button combinations and I'd prefer a more permanent solution. As I see it, next disk upgrade and I'll be back to square one.

Never heard of anything at all like that on any of the sites I have been to and do not even see how it could possibly work. Someone was discussing a switch to turn on and off the rear view camera, maybe that is what you were thinking of?

Once you have the correct Loading.kwi file to substitute on the the disk it is pretty straight forward to get it done. I use my nav everyday, but only need to use the override function about once a month so for me it isn't a very big deal.

I could be wrong... It's happened once before. : But, I thought I remembered seeing something where manipulation/splicing of the wires and adding a switch (and maybe other components)would allow Nav override.

I think part of it had to do with tricking the system into thinking it was not moving via vehicle sensors (VSS???). GPS still worked, but wasn't as accurate due to lack of dead reckoning. Once you were done inputting and switched back to normal, everything returns to normal.

There are two types of hacks. One is a hardwire hack that includes cutting wires and adding a switch because after the hack the display MAY get jumpy.

The second is a software hack that requires substituting a file that allows you to use the override function from the maintenance menu.

Both these hacks are for a Lexus vehicle but it should be the same.

This hack has been confirmed to work on the 2007 Camrys, so it should work on other Toyotas. It's a matter of finding the correct version of the loading.kwi file.

So, this mod looks pretty easy - just cutting two wires and adding a switch between them. But, I'm hesitant to do because I don't know what (if any) changes there are in wire colors between the '07 Lexus IS and my '07 4Runner. It seems there are wire differences between (IIRC) the Camry.

Anyone know where I can get a wiring schematic for my '07 4Runner Limited with Nav? It looks like I need to find the VSS wires in two different plugs at the back of the nav/radio unit.

I read through that and it said that you cannot input directions though, I guess it is only useful for the phone feature, that is a bummer because I would only want to do it so my passenger could input directions.

You should be able to input directions with either mod. That is the whole purpose of the mod.

It's a long thread. It started without being able to input directions. However, that changed with the addition of the switch between their pink and white/silver wire.

It looks like a few had issuses... but, it always seems to be bad connections/spices or utilizing the wrong wires.

As soon as I find wiring diagrams, I'm doing this.

The software override hack should work. For the hardwire hack, you will have to verify the wires are the same.
