Has anyone installed an aftermarket backup camera?

On the tailgate...right next to the license plate, below the license plate garnish.
I would put it almost exactly where the OEM back up cam is located.
...if you can afford it...

Yes...it's plug & play. Just need to buy a harness or make one yourself.
And yes..you will retain the steering wheel audio control

I wanted this setup for the longest time...then I started forgetting about it. I just use my Garmin Nuvi 765t & I just use the rear cargo mirrors & if I don't know, I physically get my a$$ out of the 4Runner & check haha
