Has anyone put a rollcage in a 4th gen 4runner?

Like the title says, has anyone done it, or seen someone who has?

Ive been thinking about pulling the trigger recently, as Ive been hitting close to 65-70mph on twisty gravel roads, I figure if something goes wrong, a cage could save my life. But Im struggling to figure out how to do it. Like a 4 point, 6, maybe 8? I also dont want one that just bolts to the body, I want it directly welded to the frame.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance

Are you doing an Exo-Cage or Endo-Cage? The Exo is probably easier, the Endo is going to be trickier. I don't think anyone makes a bolt-in application for 4th gens yet.

Haha yeah, its pretty quick, but that is really the max on a few straights, I probably average around 35-45 through most of the corners on the trails I hit.

And definitely would be a endo, not a fan of the exo cage look. Ive been looking at some double cab tacomas that have cages to get some ideas, but I want to keep the back seats usable, which all the ones Ive seen cant manage to pull off.

Also keep in mind that an interior roll cage may actually make a crash worse as your head would hit solid metal instead of something soft. That's why generally they say if you have a roll cage, you should be wearing a helmet.

I have thought about this as well. But for the cage I would like to build, the tube in front of my head, would be recessed almost flush with the headliner, pressed up as close as possible to the roof. Im pretty short, and sit low, so I feel theres a pretty low chance Id hit it in a crash. Im also not against wearing a helmet to drive fast, though.

I also do plan to get some sort of bucket seats and 4/5 point harnesses, which would be easier to install with the roll cage since it will have a bar behind the rear seats too. It would keep my head away from the roll cage too, which is a plus

I didn't see one listed, but I think they are your best bet, besides having one custom made. I would contact them and see what they say.

Thanks, Ill check that out. Only thing I dont like about their cages though is the bar goes around the dash and theres no triangle supports anywhere. Although I guess I could always add to it. Ill see what they say

the bar goes through the dash? on which one? I checked a few, the front bars are bent to clear the dash in front, I didn't see any going through. although I HAVE seen that done. where the bar drops down where the vents are. I don't care for that either.

that is a SOLID roll cage. but yes, im sure they could provide you with any addition pieces you might need/want.

Spend extra now, make sure what ever tubing is used is certifiable. That way years from now if it turns into a race vehicle you won't have to start over. A friend of mine made that mistake.

I don't know how much room you have to run a bar through there, the harness is pretty tight in many sections.

Also my understanding is that you don't want harness straps to just be bolted right behind the seats, even if you're using a bar because if leverage forces.

I have built roll cages for many many vehicles. Not a 4Runner, but cars, trucks, SUV's and even a cage for a capsule in a speed boat.

The badge on the grill does not matter to a competent fabricator. Something to properly protect and be used as a daily driver with all seats would run a good 8k-9k. Anything less....well you get what you pay for. You want it bad, you get it bad.
