has anyone relocated their oil filter?

I had a Mercedes Benz and the filter was in the front top of the engine it was SOOOO easy to do oil changes. I was wondering if anyone has relocated the oil filter on their 3rd gen and if so what kit you used?

Me being a Toyota Mechanic I would not recommend doing something like this. But if you find a good way let me know because id be interested in doing it also. Its easy for me to Change the oil on mine just being the fact i have access to a lift that i can stand underneath it.

There are lots of kits available for various applications, you'll have to fined out what the threading is. I personally find the stock location very easy to work with. Just life that flap on the side and your good to go with a oil-wrench cap thing.

Yeah the oil filter is super easy to reach through the flap on the driver side tire well. I guess if you had super good crack then why not move it, but if I was a smart crackhead... I would save my money and buy more crack.

I find the stock location pretty easy too....actually....it's the easiest filter change I've ever had to do on any other vehicle!

its not hard to reach but it sucks when your constantly spilling oil from the filter all over.... I want to re-locate mine too.

Yea i guess i have short arms, it always ends up with me turning my head to the side making strange faces and my wrist not allowing me to ever get the proper grip. Then it seems to make a mess on the pan, i know the pan is easy to remove but a remote kit would make the job cleaner and take about 30 secs to do. After i figure out how to hardwire my gps ill see if i can put together a kit if no one else has done it by then.

x2 I find the location is easy to get to, but oil spillage is a b^&ch . Tried poking a hole in the filter last time, to drain before uncrewing it, not sure which method spilled more.:uzi:

I've read using a plastic grocery bag over the filter helps keep it clean. But I always forget when I'm actually changing the oil.

On my Subaru Legacy I use a plastic beer cup over the filter, so anything that spills ends up in the cup, works great! The filter on that car is horizontal though, I have no idea what you're working with.

The filter on my Surf goes on from the top, which you would think would be terrible, but there's a catch tray under the filter housing with a drain line that funnels any spillings to the bottom of the engine bay, not a bad setup.
