Hatch and handle replaced, water under cargo carpet

We recently had our hatch and handle replaced by a body shop. This week, we noticed that the carpet in the rear cargo area is damp, pulled that up and verified that the cushion and metal below it was covered in water.

The body shop states that they installed this rubber gasket around the handle correctly but the previous handle on my 4R and all other 4Rs in the parking lot had the gasket tucked under the handle.

Could you confirm that this gasket is supposed to sit under the handle? Are there other areas that we should look for in terms of water intrusion?

something is not making sense to me or Im just not understanding. I have no rubber gasket on my 2012. but it shouldn't matter because the hatch has weep holes that allow water in the hatch to escape. there's no way water is coming from that spot onto the cargo area. if it gets in there it will just drip down in the hatch and out

now perhaps it is coming from the grommet at the tope that has the wiring bundle that goes to the liftgate from the main body of the vehicle? now that makes sense to me. have someone go in the hatch or set up a camera and hose it down and find out where its coming from. I don't think its coming from that garnish

I'd be looking at the top of the hatch and how it fits to the body. Also as above check the grommets.

Body shop had shown us our old handle and the gasket sat underneath the handle.

I checked out the wiring harness and the gaskets at the top of the hatch and didn't see anything out of place. We'll send it back to the shop for them to diagnose. Thanks!

Figured it out. Bodyshop didn't correctly install the vapor barrier on the hatch.

Edit: wasn't just the vapor barrier. Water is weeping out of the bottom of the hatch speaker mounts. Gotta be something up higher.
